101 ways to contribute to Wikimedia

This is a page to co-ordinate a proposed project to create appealing invitations (calls to action) to contribute in specific ways to Wikimedia, beyond the "default" (and itself implicit) "write articles on Wikipedia".

The idea is spelled out in these slides by Asaf Bartov:

101 Ways to Contribute to Wikimedia

Main landing page

edit

A section to discuss designs and ideas for the "landing page" for "101 ways to contribute to Wikimedia".

A quick initial list of issues to consider:

  • keep it brief
  • make it easy to translate (avoid idioms and language-specific wikijargon)
  • make it appealing
  • make it easy to self-direct towards the avenues of contribution most relevant for the reader (e.g. make it easy for non-programmers to exclude tasks requiring programming)

The main "101" list

edit

Each activity type here should link to a sub-page for developing documentation for that activity type. For each, we should have:

  • A brief text description
  • A brief video tutorial demonstrating UI and method.
  • Clear expression of pre-requisites ("programming ability", "access to a library", "ability with graphics software", etc.)
  • A designated path to mentorship (usernames, a talk page, real-time chat) for that specific task
  • ...?
