  • User: Agus Damanik (User account list / User page link)
  • Primary Wikimedia projects: Indonesian Wikisource; Indonesian Wikipedia
  • Language capabilities (language and level of proficiency): English (4); Indonesian (5); Malay (2)
  • Regional experiences: East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific
  • What experience do you have participating on committees, within or outside the Wikimedia movement?
I was part of the Central Organizing Committee of Wikimania 2023, Head of the Environmental Department of my Executive Student Committee during my college, ESEAP Preparatory Council and a member of Wikimedia Indonesia
  • What skills, experience, or perspective would you bring or contribute to the committee, if appointed?
As a former EduWiki Outreach Collaborator for ESEAP, I gained valuable insights into the challenging conditions prevailing in the ESEAP region. Furthermore, as the founder of a Wikimedia community, I have developed the ability to identify and address issues that commonly arise in organizations and communities, potentially preventing conflicts. Presently, I am employed by an environmental youth-based NGO. This experience equips me with the knowledge and skills to comprehend environmental issues and the circumstances faced by young contributors, which I observed to be lacking during my time contributing to the Wikimedia environment.
  • Is there any other pertinent information that you would like us to take into account when reviewing your application?
I had a conversation with Suyash Dwivedi during Wikimania regarding the condition of my affiliate. He informed me about a specific issue, the lack of manpower within AFFCOM, and it's even more critical than I had anticipated. I was surprised to find that there were no representatives from the ESEAP region. I genuinely believe it would be valuable to nominate someone from ESEAP, especially from minority groups like women, the LGBT community, or those with disabilities. However, if no suitable candidate from my region is available, please consider my application as a step towards promoting diversity."
  • Which sub-committee are you interested in working with (Conflict Intervention, Recognitions)?:
    Either
  • What do you think are the benefits and responsibilities of functioning as formal affiliates, and when is a group of Wikimedians ready to form an affiliate?
I live in an area where becoming a formal organization is of significant importance, particularly for establishing partnerships. Based on my experiences with an informal community, I've encountered substantial challenges when trying to encourage people to participate in our activities and gain their trust in our legitimacy as a community striving for societal betterment.\
Within the Wikimedian group, groups are prepared to establish an affiliate once they can demonstrate a track record of hosting events and maintaining consistent contributions during their formation period. As a minimum requirement, they must aim to showcase two years of active involvement, as this timeframe offers a sufficient window to assess their commitment to the formation of the affiliate, which contributes to the broader Wikimedia movement
  • Please describe your experience working with conflict resolution, and how you have helped build consensus and support diversity.
I have a few conflict resolution during my administatorship in Indonesian wikipedia where i resolve the problem of notability of a few figure which is popular celebrity but not kinda accepted by the contributor cause they are being famous quite fast. I solve by teaching the contributor how to correct their contribution or make the fix by myself. I know it's not much, but i think it's the example of conflict resolution that i have in my mind.

  2.   Oppose For now sorry, but I am not going to endorse anyone who applies for any role in WMF until they explicitly declare their commitment to the Wikimedia Foundation Guiding Principles (even if implicit commitment may be clear) or present a clear critique of them based on reasonable arguments and at least a basic proposal to improve the situation about the principles. If you answer my questions, I may change my endorsement. Thanks for understanding ;-) --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 22:15, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
