What experience do you have participating on committees, within or outside the Wikimedia movement?
I've been an active Wikimedia projects editor since 2016. Since 2017, I have also been involved in Wikimedia UG Georgia, together with my Wikipedia colleagues. I registered our UG in Georgia as a non-profit in 2019, and we are already an official non-profit organization in Georgia now. I have been a member of AffCom since 2020, where I participate in the recognition subcommittee. During my term, we recognized dozens of new affiliations. Also, during my term on the committee, I actively worked on resolving problems within different affiliations, which had issues in governance.
What skills, experience, or perspective would you bring or contribute to the committee, if appointed?
During my term, I learned the committee's work quite well and took part in improving the work processes within the committee. Also, working with various affiliations, with different cultural and geographic parameters and needs, gave me good knowledge of working with them, which will help me and the committee in future work. My linguistic and regional knowledge, as well as the knowledge of different communities in the Wikimedia Movement, I think will bring more opportunities to the committee in future work and especially in the line of work of the Affiliate strategy.
Is there any other pertinent information that you would like us to take into account when reviewing your application?
I try to learn all aspects of my work in the committee as much as possible, and I also use the acquired knowledge outside the Wikimedia in the committee's work.
Which sub-committee are you interested in working with (Conflict Intervention, Recognitions)?: Recognitions sub-committee
What do you think are the benefits and responsibilities of functioning as formal affiliates, and when is a group of Wikimedians ready to form an affiliate?
The formal affiliations allow communities to be more organized and sustain a formal connection with the Wikimedia Foundation. Also, formal affiliations can apply for a large grant that the WMF provides. Affiliates can provide communities with more resources. I think when there are a sufficient number of volunteers who are aware of the processes of affiliations of Wikimedia and the work of the movement, they can apply for recognition. Also, before applying, volunteers should learn the guidelines of AffCom and conduct an analysis of their capabilities and goals.
Please describe your experience working with conflict resolution, and how you have helped build consensus and support diversity.
In the past, I was actively involved in different issues of affiliations, which experienced difficulties in governance. With my knowledge and the help of colleagues, we were able to eliminate the gaps and problems of different affiliations and achieved that we could maintain the status of affiliation.
Strong support A dedicated, personable, capable member of the Affiliations Committee. I worked with AffCom for two and half years and strongly believe Mehman's experience is much needed in this time of change and disruption within both AffCom and the movement. Strong oppose I strongly suspect that AffCom is violating the Wikimedia Foundation Guiding Principles for last at least 3 years. That suspection was big part of my reason to apply to AffCom, in fact. And Mehman Ibragimov is part of that term of AffCom, so I am very careful. Generaly, I am not going to endorse anyone who applies for any role in WMF until they explicitly declare their commitment to the WMF Guiding Principles (even if implicit commitment may be clear, which in this case is not) or present a clear critique of them based on reasonable arguments and at least a basic proposal to improve the situation about the principles. If you answer my questions, I may change my endorsement. I strongly invite you to explicitly clarify your role in the suspected AffCom's violations (you can find a lot of examples in the AffCom mailinglist by searching something like "Do you consider that AffCom is aligned with WMF Guiding Principles"). Thanks for understanding, and I am very looking for your answer. --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 22:51, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support Знаю Мехмана по работе на пересечении википроектов из разных языков и считю его подходящим кандидатом. Уверен, что его деятельность принесёт много пользы. VladimirPF (talk) 14:15, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
