  • What experience do you have participating on committees, within or outside the Wikimedia movement?
    Within the movement, I have not directly participated on committees but I have participated as a jụry in the just concluded Wiki Loves Monument in the Igbo community. I have also participated in decision making processes and helped in problem solving in my affiliate community.
  • What skills, experience, or perspective would you bring or contribute to the committee, if appointed?
    Firstly, as a graduate of mass communication, I believe can bring a diverse set of skills, experiences, and perspectives, such as; communication expertise and community engagement skills to the Affiliates Committee. My training has equipped me with the ability to craft persuasive messages, facilitate dialogue, and build bridges between diverse groups. Through my education, I have honed my strategic communication skills, enabling me to effectively convey complex ideas to various stakeholders. Furthermore, my experiences in media planning and audience analysis have sharpened my ability to understand and respond to the needs of different communities. I am passionate about leveraging my communication skills to amplify the voices of Wikimedia affiliates and enhance collaboration within the Wikimedia community. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the committee's mission and promote the Wikimedia movement's values through effective communication strategies. I also have unique soft skills, such as; problem solving, good communication skills, great collaboration skills which I believe will be helpful in the committee.
  • Is there any other pertinent information that you would like us to take into account when reviewing your application?
    I am experienced in lots of Wikimedia projects and I have participated and facilitated several Wikimedia projects. I have also worked with Wikimedians abroad to facilitate programmes such as the 2023 LD4 Conference on Linked Data. Moreover, I acknowledge the significance of the time and effort required for the committee's work. I am fully committed to dedicating the necessary time and energy to contribute effectively to the committee's initiatives. I understand the importance of the responsibilities involved and am prepared to fulfill them to the best of my abilities.
  • Which sub-committee are you interested in working with (Conflict Intervention, Recognitions)?: Recognitions sub-committee
  • What do you think are the benefits and responsibilities of functioning as formal affiliates, and when is a group of Wikimedians ready to form an affiliate?
    benefits of functioning as a formal affiliates is that it gives visibility and recognition to Affiliated groups within the Wikimedia community, making it easier to collaborate with other affiliates, share best practices, and participate in global Wikimedia events. It also facilitates community building at local or thematic level by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange and shared projects among Wikimedians with similar interests or at a geographic location. Their responsibility is to comply and adhere to Wikimedia's policies and guidelines to maintain the integrity of the Wikimedia projects. They are also responsible for ensuring that resources are used effectively and that the organisation's activities align with the community's goals, while being accountable to their community members and stakeholders etc. Moreover, a group of Wikimedians are ready to form an affiliate when their goals align with the Wikimedia movement's mission and demonstrate a commitment to advancing free knowledge. It can also be formed when a community has active participation and engagement with a genuine enthusiasm for collaborative initiatives and they are interested in forming in forming an Affiliate. In addition, a group of Wikimedians are ready to form an affiliate when the group have shown to have strong organizational capacity to manage activities, finances, and communication effectively. This includes showing the have competent leaders, clear decision-making processes, and transparent financial management etc.
  • Please describe your experience working with conflict resolution, and how you have helped build consensus and support diversity.
    I have several experience working with conflict resolution, and I have also helped build consensus and support diversity. I have actively engaged in conflict resolution by promoting open communication and encouraging parties involved to express their concerns, while also giving them the opportunity to hear and understand each others perspective. In the process of the resolution, I helped find common ground and guided the parties toward mutually agreeable solutions, through empathy and active listening. In conclusion, I have also helped to build consensus and support diversity by organising and facilitating events, where everyone is welcome and free to participate. I have also advocated for diverse representation within decision-making processes, ensuring that a variety of voices are considered. I am committed to bringing these skills and experiences to the committee, where I can actively contribute to promoting diversity and resolving conflicts effectively.
