Please describe any experience you have with conflict resolution and/or consensus building. | In my roles, both on and off Wiki, I have found myself addressing conflicts, in these environments where opinions and objectives vary. My approach to conflict resolution involves listening and finding a common ground. For instance, the most resent one is Working with other Executives in my Community Development Service group, where the president acted and spoke authoritatively to other executive members without considering others opinion and sees every opposing opinion to his as a personal attack or jealousy. This aroused a lot of misunderstanding and conflict. To manage the situation, I opened up a discussion in the executive WhatsApp group, creating a space for open dialogue, where each member had the opportunity to express their concerns. I actively facilitated the discussion ensuring each member felt respected and heard and also made sure the president didn't feel attacked and stressed the need to work collaboratively as a team. I also implemented regular check-ins to address minor concerns before they get escalated.
In your ideal world, what does the affiliate model and ecosystem look like? | In my ideal world, the affiliate model and ecosystem is a collaborative, inclusive, supportive, and open access Ecosystem, where every affiliate either existing or emerging affiliate, gets equitable access to needed funding and resources to help them contribute meaningfully to the broader mission. In this model, emerging communities will be peered with more experienced ones with shared goals, for guidance and Mentorship to help them grow and increase inclusivity and sustainability.
In your ideal world, what are AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates? | In my ideal world, AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates are :Firstly to work as a support system for both existing and emerging affiliates. They guide, support and give them access to resources, trainings and Mentorship programs from the movement, especially emerging and underrepresented regions.
Secondly, they serve as watchdogs to the Leadership of every affiliate to ensure accountability and sustainability. They monitor the progress of every affiliate, Leadership structures and ensure all activities are in accordance to the guidelines and principles of the movement. They also function as a medium/ middle man between the affiliates and the larger Wikimedia Foundation. AffCom works closely with affiliates by monitoring their activities, providing support, ensuring growth and sustainability and at the same time, generate feedback which they use to know the stage each affiliation has gotten to and whatever resources they need, thereby helping them to advocate for these resources or concerns in the broader movement.
What role within AffCom are you most interested in: advisory or voting member? | Advisory |
