Africa Eco-Sustainability User Group
The Africa Eco-Sustainability User Group is a community of Wikimedians committed to making a positive impact on the open knowledge ecology in Africa. Our main base is at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Our membership is open to all lovers of the African natural environment. Our mission is to widen our horizon on contributing information to Wikimedia on deforestation in Nigeria to include other African countries.
Objectives
editMinimize content and contributor information gap in Wikimedia To minimize the content and contributor gap in Wikimedia projects as it relates to information on deforestation, climate change and eco-sustainable practices in Africa.
Encourage use of Wikimedia contents by students To actively promote and advocate for use of Wikimedia contents by students to gain background knowledge on issues related to deforestation, climate change and eco-sustainability in African countries.
Collaborative Environmental Initiatives
To collaborate with relevant university departments and professional bodies to contribute information on deforestation, climate change and eco-sustainability on African Countries in Wikimedia
Educational Engagement for Children
To create an educational space within the Wikicommon project that caters for children's reading interest, by creating graphic versions of information on deforestation, climate change and sustainable lifestlye.
Activities
editAnnual edit-a-thon Organize annual edit-a-thon of all Africans interested in contributing information on Wikimedia as it concerns deforestation, climate change and eco-sustainability.
Monthly Meet-Ups Host online monthly meet-ups aimed at building up the capacity of individuals to contribute high quality content to Wikimedia and assessing the impact of the group on the Wikimedia open knowledge infrastrucuture.
Outreach Programs
Bi-monthly outreach programs targeting schools at different levels, including universities and colleges, to promote eco-sustainability awareness and educate students about Wikimedia projects.
Annual Publication Publish the activities of the group annually on the Wikimedia blog post.
