Primary Activities

edit

1. Manuscript digitization The core activity of this project is to digitize old publications belonging to individuals and institutions (James O'Brien SJ Library, University of Nueva Caceres Museum, Raul S. Roco Library) that are in danger of being damaged. All pages of the manuscript will be photographed (or scanned) and a digital copy will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons under sufficient Creative Common license. Each old publication bundle will be provided with sufficient metadata via Wikidata.

2. Wikisource proofread-a-thon Old publications that have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and with metadata will then be processed through a transcription process using Wikisource. Interested individuals and staff of partner institutions will be introduced to how Wikisource works. Wiki Recue Challange will be held to encourage participation.

3. Learning Partnership Bikol Wikipedia Community has signed up to become a learning on Wikisource Loves Manuscripts project.

On 2 December 2022, as part of the celebration of the 15th birthday of Bikol Wikipedia, a 2-hour virtual seminar Webinar on Wikimedia was conducted at Fr. James O'Brien SJ Library in Naga City in partnership with the Ateneo de Naga University and the Bikol Wikimedia Community. The webinar featured two topics on Wikipedia and Education, and Wikisource. Three invited reactors gave insights and commentaries on the topics.[1]

The very first Wiki Rescue activity was conducted on February 24 to 25, 2023 to add content on Bikol Wikisource. Featured for its inaugural activity is a rare copy of the 1986 Philippine Constitution in the Bikol language.

The WILMA Learning Partners Network trainings and workshops ran from October 10, 2023 to March 14, 2024. Among the twelve community members who successfully finished the course was Irvin Sto. Tomas. They completed the trainings and presented their intent to expand the Wikisource Loves Manuscripts project to their language.
