Botho University Wiki Club Edit-a-thon series BW 2024.

The Botho University Wikipedia Outreach event on the 9th of April 2024 marked a significant effort to engage students in the Wikimedia Botswana community and promote participation in the realm of open knowledge. The primary objective was to attract students to join the Botho Wiki Club, a school activation program aimed at fostering a culture of contribution to Wikimedia projects. The initiative sought to bolster the number of editors within the Wikimedia Botswana community while simultaneously encouraging active involvement from students. Recognizing the diverse linguistic backgrounds of the student body, particular emphasis was placed on training in Wikidata. This decision was informed by the presence of Setswana non-speaking students, for whom Wikidata provided an inclusive platform for learning and contribution. The event featured comprehensive training sessions led by Candy Khohliwe, an experienced Wikimedia contributor and advocate. With a focus on Wikidata, participants were equipped with the necessary skills to navigate and contribute effectively to the platform. The training sessions were designed to accommodate learners of all proficiency levels, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
