Wikimedia Serbia celebrated two birthdays in January and February — Wikipedia Day and 22nd birthday of Serbian Wikipedia. We also held a General Assembly and conducted a microgrant call for projects. One of the main focuses of the Education Program was accredited seminars, not only for teachers but also for seniors and librarians. As part of the GLAM program, another successful 1Lib1Ref campaign was carried out, in which the Serbian Wikipedia community won first place worldwide.

Education Program

  • Accredited Seminars:
    • Accredited seminar for teachers has been scheduled at the "Đura Jakšić" High School in Rača as part of the implementation of the Cultural Heritage of Rača project.
    • An accredited seminar has been scheduled at the "Miloje Vasić" High School in Veliko Gradište.
    • Planning has begun for the first accredited seminar for librarians titled "Wiki Seniors in Libraries: Librarians as Creators of Innovative Knowledge for the Elderly," which Wikimedia Serbia will implement in collaboration with the Belgrade City Library.
  • Memorandums of cooperation have been signed with the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade regarding the organization of internship programs. The internship program at the Faculty of Economics began in February.
  • An online meeting of Wikimedia Serbia's Wiki Ambassadors was held, where the current situation at faculties and potential activities for the upcoming period were discussed.
  • Wikimedia Serbia will have two representatives at the Youth Conference, which will take place in Prague from May 16 to May 18 this year.
  • At the invitation of the Ministry of Education, Wikimedia Serbia has joined the EdTech Talents project. This is a Horizon project funded by the European Commission, aimed at improving educational policies, tools, and practices in Serbia.
  • The mentorship program organized by the Wikipedia and Education user group has begun. This mentorship program aims to provide support and guidance to organizations seeking to develop their educational activities related to Wiki projects. A representative of Wikimedia Serbia will mentor the work of a representative from the Wikimedia user group in Nigeria during this program.

GLAM Program

  • Wikimedia Serbia, in collaboration with the "Svetozar Marković" University Library and the Wikimedia community of the Republic of Srpska, once again organized and participated in the #1Lib1Ref campaign this year. The Serbian Wikipedia community won first place worldwide. A total of 21 editors added as many as 15,322 references to articles where they were missing. The best editor of the campaign was Nikolina Šepić, and alongside Nikolina, three more editors were ranked among the top 10 contributors of the campaign (Vanilica, Gzanag, and Ljiljana Sundać).
  • Application was submitted to Ministry of Culture within the the call for funding or co-funding projects in the field of cultural heritage protection and digitization in the Republic of Serbia for 2025 with the Wikipedian in Residence project.
  • In collaboration with the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia Argentina, and the Let's Connect working group, efforts were made to organize lectures as part of the #1Lib1Ref campaign and to evaluate the campaign in the role of global coordinator.

Diversity Program

  • Wikimedia Serbia has organized call for microgrants projects in the field of free knowledge and culture. Grants of up to 500 euros are dedicated to smaller-scale projects with the potential to grow into long-term and sustainable initiatives. As these are smaller projects, they provide an ideal opportunity for new volunteers who want to become more familiar with Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. 16 project proposals were submitted and the final results will be announced in March.
  • On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the eighth WikiGap campaign was being prepared. Wikimedia Serbia is conducting this event in collaboration with the Wikimedia community of the Republic of Srpska, the Women’s Association of the Kolubara District, and the Ružica Association. The campaign will kick off with a live edit-a-thon on Friday, March 7th. After the live event, participants can continue writing new and improving existing articles online until March 14.

Organizational

  • Wikimedia Serbia organized two birthday celebrations in January and February — for English Wikipedia and Serbian Wikipedia. Both events were held at Wikimedia Serbia's premises. During the celebrations, awards were given for Wikipedian of the Year, the winners of the #1Lib1Ref campaign, and an educational quiz was also organized.
  • In February, the Thirty-Third Regular General Assembly was held. In addition to matters concerning the Association's members, the Assembly adopted the 2024 Board Activity Report and the Financial Report. A version of the report, reduced in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Regulation, is available on the WMRS website.
