Purpose of the Event/Activity

VGLUG is having more than a decade experience on bringing volunteers into open source. Especially for wikipedia we have conducted various wiki source editing event and technical hackathons that provides various tools for wikipedia such as Spell4Wiki, WikiBulky, SpotWikiEdit, QuickWikitionary etc.

The purpose of this event is to enhance the quality and quantity of books on Tamil Wikisource, this initiative aims to engage a wider audience from across the district, encouraging their active participation. By involving more individuals, the event seeks to foster a growing, consistent community of contributors dedicated to enriching the content available on Wikisource. This collaborative effort will not only expand the collection but also improve the overall quality of texts, ensuring a more diverse and valuable resource for all users.

This event, organized in collaboration with CIS-A2K and the VGLUG Foundation, aims to empower rural youth by fostering leadership and volunteerism. Through this initiative, we aspire to increase their active participation in the Wikimedia movement, enabling more contributions from diverse communities. This collective effort will help bring the voices and knowledge of common people into the global repository of information, enriching the platform and making it more inclusive.

It is a two day proof reading event.

Day 1:

i - Introduction workshop on proof reading

ii - Proof reading

ii - End up ceremony

Expected Outcomes from the Event/Activity planned

We are planning to bring more number of books (around 50 books ~5000 pages) which will be ready without any errors. Also as the outcome we will have a bunch of new comers into wikisource editing

As a follow up we are planning to start a wiki contributors group in our district and we will have monthly meetups.
