Report

edit

Mini TTT Kolkata 2019 is the second edition of Mini TTT happening in Kolkata after a similar event happened two years ago. CIS-A2K organized and funded this event in collaboration with West Bengal Wikimedians User Group (WBG). The event was held on 29 June to 30 June 2019 at Indismart Hotel, Kolkata.

Day 0

edit

Yann felicitated by Atudu

A pre-event was planned on 28 June, 2019 late evening at the hotel lobby for ice-breaking among the participants. Participant was selected one at a time serially according to the sitting order in a round table manner and other participants were asked to share something about that participant which they feel good about him/her.

Day 1

edit

Day 1 started by welcome notes from Tito (CIS-A2K) as CIS representative, Tarunsamanta as primary organizer, Atudu and Bodhisattwa as WBG representatives. Atudu handed over First Light, a English translation of প্রথম আলো which is a novel written by famous Bengali writer Sunil Gangopadhyay on the era of Bengali Renaissance, to Yann as a gift from WBG, who had came for the event as a resource person. Tito (CIS-A2K) explained Code of Conduct (CoC) to all after that and asked participants to the CoC document, which was already supplied to each table.

The main event started with a session on Wikipedia policies and participants were engaged in a multi-way interactive session on how to propose a policy in Wikipedia. Participants were divided into groups and asked to engage in an imaginary situation of proposing a policy to delete stub articles in Bengali Wikipedia. After lunch, Yann presented a session on copyright policies in Wikimedia Commons. The participants were shown several examples of images and asked for explanation, if they can be uploaded to Commons or not. After this session, Jayanta (CIS-A2K) conducted a session introducing Wikisource. Each and every participants were alloted 4-5 pages of Bharatbarsha, a book written by Rabindranath Tagore and was asked to proofread them. Basic formatting templates were introduced to the participants and all confusions were cleared during the hands-on session. At the end of the session, more than 50 pages were proofread.

Day 2

edit

Day 2 started with a introductory session on Wikidata by Bodhisattwa with some hands-on manual item creation by the participants followed by different data visualizations by Mahir256 who was kind enough to present remotely. After the session, hands on training on basic SPARQL was conducted by Tito (CIS-A2K) and Bodhisattwa to show how the data can be easily retrieved from Wikidata. After the lunch, Ananth (CIS-A2K) presented a session on Wikimedia Education Program and shared the success stories which happened in India. Members of West Bengal Wikimedians User Group then sat together and discussed their bylaws, future plans and strategy for next year activities.
