- Abstract
Before the Roman conquest, the Alps were Celtic in the north and Rhaetian in the south. The incorporation into the Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus created here a dialect of the provincial Latin of the central Alps on different linguistic substrates of the Celtic, Rhaetian and Noric Alpine populations. At the end of the Roman Empire, there was an uninterrupted region of distinct Rhaeto-Romance versions that was gradually fragmented into Alpine valleys and increasingly reduced in number with the pressure of the German dialects from the north and the Gallo-languages italics from the south.
Today, therefore, there remains a rich difference that has a rich and fragmented documentation very important to understand the evolution of Latin to neolatin languages.
However, these languages came to be halfway between southern and northern Europe and recent studies discovered that they conveyed the spread of the Etruscan and Roman alphabet towards the Celtic territories and, therefore, at the birth of the runic writing.
The present project aims to create a linguistic atlas using Wikisource and Wikidata to give to linguistic researcher tools to improve their researches on this specific language.
Until now Wikimedia CH supported the upload of Rhaeto-Romansh textes in Wikisource building one of the biggest diigital library in this language.
Together with universities and cultural institutions, now we would start to use Wikidata to store all dictionaries of the local versions of Rhaeto-romansh referencing to the textes we have in Wikisource and to build a geolocalized representation of these words to define clearly the influences.
