Abstract

This presentation will have two parts.

Started in 2003, Wikisource is a free online digital library and one of the oldest sister projects of Wikipedia. After a very short introduction, I will give some statistics about the Wikisource: how many are there, how many texts do they have, how is it integrated with others Wikimedia projects, how fast are they growing. I will especially insist on small languages as Wikisource is a great place where small languages can really thrive.

Building on this statistics, in the second part, I will talk about the dynamics behind it. Again, I will focus on some small languages, especially the amazing story of Punjabi Wikisource (3 year old already the 15th biggest Wikisource and the 6th fastest growing Wikimedia project in 2019), detailling what worked and what is still in progess.

What will attendees take away from this session?

Attendees will better understand of Wikisources, what are the main metrics for content and edit, and what make them succesful.
