Background

The Celtic Knot Conference Kwara local meetup 2023 aims to bring Wikimedians in Kwara State and beyond together to learn, edit and share their experiences of working on minority and marginalized languages on the Wikimedia projects. Our aim is to help them learn how to direct the flow of information across languages to eliminate/reduce barriers and create visibility for indigenous knowledge online.

This event will help new and existing Wikimedians in Kwara State to meet, learn, translate and edit Wikipedia articles and Wikidata lexemes to Yoruba.

Action Points

Create awareness on Social media.

Recruit volunteers who will contribute to the project.

Practical hands-on and edit-a-thon on how to translate English Wikipedia articles to Yoruba Language.

Improving Articles about Nigerian cultures, tribes, local foods and traditional wears.

Introduction to Wikidata.

Introduction to project tools on Wikidata.

Practical hands-on and edit-a-thon on how to translate Wikidata Lexemes to Yoruba Language Contributing session.

Translating labels on Wikidata.

Creating items about Nigerian culture, tribes, local foods and traditional.

Wikicommons

Uploading pictures of Nigerian traditional food.

Adding pictures to Wikipedia articles.

Adding pictures on Wikidata items.
