Abstract:

WikiExplorer is more than just another app - it's a gateway to global discovery and knowledge sharing. Imagine having a pocket guide that not only shows you amazing places around the world but also teaches you how to become a Wikipedia contributor in just a few taps. We've built something special: an intuitive mobile app that makes exploring landmarks and cultural sites super easy, while giving everyday people the tools to share their local stories. Our goal is simple - break down the barriers to contributing to Wikipedia, make learning fun, and create a community where everyone can add their piece of the world's biggest open encyclopedia. No complex business model, just pure knowledge sharing.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central Asia?

We know Central Asia has a rich history along the Silk Road, and the history of Central Asian countries is essential human knowledge for the world’s history. As Wikipedia edit-a-thons and editing become more popular trends like we’ve seen with projects such as WikiStipendiya in Uzbekistan - it is to build a community-driven platform that keeps editors engaged in contributing to free human knowledge. By creating articles about historical sites, we promote the tourism of Central Asian countries. WikiExplorer will become a digital bridge connecting Central Asian youth to write about their cultural heritage, archaeological sites, and historical landmarks.
