Abstract:

Wikimedia Commons is the world's largest free media repository, hosting millions of freely licensed images, videos, and audio files used across Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia. This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Wikimedia Commons, including uploading media, categorization, metadata, and licensing.

Through hands-on activities, attendees will learn best practices for contributing high-quality content, improving existing files, and utilizing Commons effectively for Wikimedia projects, research, and education. The session will also cover community guidelines, tools for batch uploads, and strategies for organizing media efficiently.

  • Increase participation and contributions to Wikimedia Commons. That will lead to more freely licensed media content available for Wikimedia projects.

  • Increased awareness of Wikimedia Commons among both Central Asian contributors and local institutions. Encourage collaboration between photographers, institutions, and Wikimedia contributors.
