For many location infoboxes, the native_name field displays a name prominently at the top of the infobox (such as en:Oaia Island). This isn't true for rivers (e.g. en:Hōteo River), which relegates the native name to below locator maps in a small font.

Having a prominent native name is often very useful for Aotearoa New Zealand articles. Often many natural features have names that are legally as important as the common name, and if the common name is European in origin (e.g. en:Buller River) it obscures much of the historic and cultural context.
