- The same wish was proposed in 2019 and declined while it was the second wish. See the result Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Results. Nouill (talk) 15:03, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'm going to leave this one here for the time being because people keep proposing this. Indeed this was the #2 wish in the 2019 survey. We investigated and even began work, and as much as we wanted to finish it we unfortunately had to stop due to some technical challenges and conflicts with the Desktop Improvements project. You can learn more by reading our status report. This is not to say dark mode won't happen some day; I think it definitely will, but I'm afraid it won't be from Community Tech. Again I'll leave this proposal here for now, but will archive it before voting starts. Thanks for participating in the survey, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 17:05, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- There are two good off-the-shelf skins that could be installed that would help those who need a dark mode. DarkVector is a fork of the Vector skin with a pleasant dark look (Darkvector example). Citizen is a clever responsive skin that automatically detects if the user's browser preferences call for a dark theme. (citizen example). If the WMF decides to go ahead and install these, then they could easily be accessed via the preferences page just like any other skin. It would not require the user to understand scripts or custom css. Flounder ceo (talk) 17:59, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes please. I use a browser add-on to reduce glare on almost every other site, but have to view Wikipedia in eye-piercing white to be able to see my work as a reader would. An officially supported dark mode would be wonderful. Certes (talk) 01:41, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hell yeah, like the mobile app or any other good contamporary website. Dark mode available for the masses! EasyKL (talk) 18:57, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- As written above, this was declined in a previous survey. See my comment above. Thanks for participating, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 21:35, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
