I can definetly see the benefit of adding options to align text, set sortability keys, flip between cell and header type etc. Also would be nice to highlight the option for importing CSV a bit more. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 12:31, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is a lot of complexity here, even just considering alignment. Alignment can be set using the align attribute, the style attribute, or using a class. It can be set on the whole table, a whole table row, or a table cell. That's already 9 ways alignment could have been set that can all potentially interact with each other. I do have one question. Is it possible to manually move images around using visual editor? I'd love to see it and this would be a nice thing to add. Rzzor (talk) 19:06, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to further understand how you imagine this to work. Would you like to set the alignment of the of each table cell in the table properties dialog? KSiebert (WMF) (talk) 15:49, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For instance, one should be able to select a few table cells, or a few rows/columns, then hit a "right-align" button on the toolbar, then expect all text in the selected cells would carry the property of being right-aligned. And, I think it would also be useful if it have features like cell merge and cell split like similar features found in spreadsheet software.C933103 (talk) 00:56, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just aA note that using colors for table cell backgrounds is often an accessibility problem and generally discouraged within larger wikis unless part of a templated system which ensures the accessbility. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 14:58, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support Clearly important, given how frequent tables are and how they're already one of the areas where editors gravitate to VE. {{u|Sdkb}}talk00:10, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support Yes please. Now when editing (non-simple) tables I always need to change from visual editor to wikitext editor. Stryn (talk) 17:19, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
