Subst templates that should be substed automatically
Problem: Currently bots have to subst templates that should be substed after edits are saved. Bots can go offline, and they can be hard to maintain, especially for smaller wikis.
Proposed solution: Automatically subst templates that are specified to need substing before saving edits, through some sort of configuration.
Who would benefit: Bot operators, editors in general
Regarding a potential NOSUBST option, substituting can always be helpful for test edits, to be able to see what a template actually outputs. Even if you're not supposed to substitute a template normally. Jochem van Hees (talk) 15:36, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if @Izno was referring to "NOSUBST" as a "never substitute this template" option (in complement to this proposal) or "do not subst in this case" (in complement to the "subst:" syntax). ~~~~ User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)18:52, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As for the opt-outs requested below, I'm not sure what that implies but I think it's "I'm adding this template here but I don't want to subst it", which would indeed be some sort of {{nosubst: syntax I guess. I don't have an issue with that. Izno (talk) 19:38, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
