ESEAP Conference 2022/Report/Tanapatjms
ESEAP Conference 2022 Report from Tanapatjms
editThings learned at the conference
editI have learned several things in the conference. To mention some of them, see as listed below.
- While Thai wikimedians have had Thai Wikimedia chapter (Wikimedia Thailand), there were several communities in ESEAP countries that have not been recognized as chapters, which they are trying to create one.
- With the talks I had during the conference, each chapter had unique fascinating ways in management. Wikimedia Thailand was trying to be a legal foundation, deciding on the place used in registration. I learned that we should look at what our community suits best to choose the place. Would on-site, hybrid, or virtual place be the best answer for them.
- During COVID-19, we had done edit-athon in our community, but Korea did it as well. It was nice to see the results in the other region too.
- ESEAP hub discussion was interesting and critical. It worked better when it's ESEAP region discussing about hub by themselves compared to hub discussion in Wikimedia Summit 2022. I am looking forward to see the complete ESEAP Hub soon.
- WikiStories looked very nice. It's like a derived, knowlegeable, well-structured Instagram stories.
- In Diversity, Safety, and Awareness panel, I learned the struggles of others whose genders do not fit the social standard. Emotional support is essential within the community to make the environment healthy and worthwhile. The talk page example is one great idea.
Things the participant contributed or participated in or since the conference
edit- I shared experiences and insights to other participants in the conference.
- I stay connected to the others from Thailand and support them. The recent activity is Wiki Loves Food 2022.
- I participated in the interview by JChen (WMF) and RASharma (WMF)
Plans after the conference (from what was learned or contributed in the conference)
edit- In December 2022, I will be help organize Wiki Loves Food 2022 in Thailand.
- In 2023, I will be working on SigmaWiki in March and WikiDiversity in June. Further information of these will be published on Meta when their plans and structures are finalized.
Comments/ suggestions about the conference
edit- I think the conference came out very well. I learned a lot of things in my and others' communities, inspired as well.
- Eating by the corridor was nice, but it was windy. If there is any place where we could eat outdoor with no strong wind, I think it would be wonderful.
- I think it would be great to put city tour in the evening instead of morning. I remembered that the tour morning was after the cruise night. I am one of those people who did not want to go because it was too early after the night.
