Salbar Tataramon - Central Bikol Wiktionary towards Lexemes
editAbstract/description
editSalbar Tataramon is a project on saving languages. There are abundant resources and tools specifically created for rescuing endangered languages while also sustaining the use of the existing languages. Salbar is a Bicolano term for save or rescue, and this project aims to preserve the languages by any means possible using existing wiki platforms and tools. Tataramon is a Bicolano word that translates to word, or in this context, language.
Lexicographical data can support wiktionaries, and aiming for the development of both, both lexeme and wiktionary entries must exist. This project foresees that lexemes will bolster the Wiktionary projects (Central Bikol Wiktionary, Rinconada Wiktionary) we currently develop. The audio sounds compiled through Lingua Libre and Spell4wiki in Wikimedia Commons will guide non-speakers of the language while preserving the language in an audio format. Lexemes can include bibliographical data, images, audio pronunciations, and other crucial information about a word entry. This also provides a pathway for other editors to translate the local word into their language equivalent. This project also envisions the interlinking of diverse languages through lexemes and provides the data gathered, which further supports our local Wiktionary.
Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme
editCollaboration does not only occur among humans. We see it among the interlinking of articles in Wikipedia or in Wiktionary, wherein an article supports the legitimacy of another, or a word would provide an additional description as contained in another word entry. We see a direct correlation between Wiktionary and Lexemes and how both can provide a robust framework of connection in preserving languages. Languages are abundant in each of the countries in the ESEAP region, and we invite them to work on their local Wiktionaries. With lexeme editing, other Wikimedians around the globe could also collaborate in providing translations for each entered lexeme data.
