Abstract:
When Wikimedia CH started the educational programme, the chapter saw that the expectations of the schools were high and the traditional proposal to use Wikipedia at school for editing and writing articles immediately appeared to be inadequate.
Also there is a strong focus on all levels of schools and the use of Wikimedia projects in schools is only suitable for some levels of education as these projects are not structured by readership level but are general and in some cases even complicated to read.
To complicate the picture, in Switzerland each canton has its own education system and there is no central education minister. This condition is demanding but also offers greater possibilities to include Wikimedia projects in the curricula if however one is in a position to offer adequate solutions.
The weaknesses of the Wikimedia projects are the presentation of the educational impact of using these projects in schools and the lack of an adequate student assessment system.
For this reason Wikimedia Ch has decided to have more tools, more suitable for schools and to create a sort of portfolio of solutions.
In this presentation Wikimedia CH will present the problem and the solution that has been adopted to solve it with an overview of existing tools and planned future tools.
