Below you can find some information about how to get to Bogotá as well as some practical advice about public transportation in the city.

Traveling to Bogotá

By Plane

Location: Approximately 12 km (7.5 miles) west of downtown Bogotá.

El Dorado International Airport (IATA: BOG) is Colombia’s largest airport and a key hub for international and domestic flights. It offers direct connections to major cities across the Americas and Europe. El Dorado is the first airport in Latin America in terms of cargo volume and the third in terms of passenger volume.

Immigration & Entry

Visitors from most Latin American countries, the European Union, and several other regions can enter Colombia for up to 90 days without a visa (See en:Visa policy of Colombia. However, all participants should confirm requirements based on their nationality at: cancilleria.gov.co.

To speed up your immigration process, you can fill out the Check-Mig form up to 72 hours in advance. This helps reduce waiting times and makes your interaction with the immigration officer smoother.

Transportation from the Airport

Taxis & Rideshares

Official Airport Taxis: Available at designated taxi counters in the arrivals hall. Estimated fare to central Bogotá: COP 35,000 - 55,000.
Ride-hailing apps: Uber, DiDi, and Cabify operate in Bogotá and can be a convenient option.

Important: Avoid accepting rides from unauthorized drivers inside the terminal. Use official taxi booths or app-based services.

Public Transport

Public transport from the airport is available but may not be practical if you have luggage. Options include:

TransMilenio: A limited connection via feeder buses to the airport. This system can be confusing for first-time visitors.
Hotel Shuttles: Some hotels provide shuttle service—please check directly with your accommodation.

Getting Around Bogotá

Public Transport

TransMilenio: Bogotá’s main Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, offering affordable transport across the city. However, it can be crowded during peak hours. Transmilenio is the most used means of transport in Bogota, to know routes and stops you can download the apps TransMi App | TransMilenio.
SITP Buses: Smaller blue buses that cover routes not served by TransMilenio.

Taxis & Rideshares

For convenience and safety, it is recommended to use apps such as:

Taxis Libres (official taxi app)
Uber, DiDi, or Cabify

Safety Tips for Transport

Use authorized taxis or ride-hailing apps, especially at night.
Be cautious with valuables when using public transport.
Avoid walking alone late at night, especially in unfamiliar areas.
Most people in Bogotá speak only Spanish, and while some may understand basic English (specially around touristic places), this is not guaranteed.
