CBSUA Wiki Education program turns 1 year
Since the signing of the activity agreement last 25 October 2023, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, PhilWiki Community and Bikol Wiki Community have collaborated in numerous activities, both online and offline, within and outside the campus. More than 200 students and faculty signed up an account on Wikipedia during the introduction of the open educational resource to the university.[1]
In May 2024, six Wiki OJTs (Wiki On-the-Job Trainees) underwent an online Wikipedia Training Course and conducted a Wiki Walk in Calabanga and Naga City to capture photos for potential upload to Wikimedia Commons. During the 2nd LitFest: Festival of Ideas – the interns organized the translating and writing Wikipedia articles.
In June 2024, a total of twenty students from the College of Education and Arts and Sciences received a certification from the Wiki Education Philippines for successfully completing the Wikipedia Training Course covering topics such as Basic Overview of Wikipedia’s Core Policies and Guidelines, Editing Basic Sources and Citations, Plagiarism and Copyright Violation, Contributing Images and Media Files, and Translating Articles.
From July-August 2024, during the Bikol Wikisource Training of Trainers, nineteen CBSUA students along with other participants from University of Nueva Caceres and Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, underwent capacity building activities and collaborated with heritage, language and cultural professionals in building an open library using Wikisource as a platform.
To date, CBSUA Wiki Club has twenty-one members comprised of alumni, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students from 3 campuses. Twelve of its members received conference scholarship and actively participated at the WikiCommons Conference PH 2023 and GLAM Wiki Conference Philippines 2024.
