OVERVIEW

Wiki Ties Abuja aims to promote free access to knowledge, bridge the information gap about Nigeria and Africa on the internet, and foster a community of Wikimedia enthusiasts in Abuja.

In addition to providing technical support for a variety of Wikimedia projects (particularly WikiData, WikiCommons, WikiQuote, Wikipedia, and any other special request Wiki Project), our network aims to execute the Wiki Ties Abuja event, which consists of an end-of-year picnic.

OBJECTIVES

• Encourage Wikimedia projects: Get more people in Abuja to know about and use Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of free information about Nigeria and Africa on Wikimedia projects in order to improve online representation of Nigeria and Africa.
• Create a community of Wikimedia enthusiasts: Through online interaction, workshops, and meetups, cultivate a community of Wikimedia enthusiasts in Abuja.
• Work together with local organizations and institutions*: Assist the growth of free knowledge in Abuja by collaborating with local organizations and institutions to support Wikimedia initiatives.

ACTIVITIES

• Edit-a-thons and workshops: Arrange workshops and edit-a-thons to assist the production and dissemination of free knowledge and to promote Wikimedia projects.
• Meetups and community engagement: To promote Wikimedia projects and create a feeling of community, host meetups and interact with the community.
• Collaborations and partnerships: Work together with regional organizations and institutions to encourage the growth of free knowledge and advance Wikimedia initiatives.

GOALS

• Increase adoption of Wikimedia projects: The picnic is set to increase Abuja's adoption of Wikimedia projects by 20%.
• Improve online representation of Nigeria and Africa: Over the course of the next 1 months, help create 500 new Wikipedia entries its sisters projects about Nigeria and Africa.
• Create a community of Wikimedia enthusiasts: Within the following picnic [Wiki Ties Abuja].
