Summary

Description
English: Demonstration of the reaction between a strong oxidising and a reducing agent. When few drops of glycerol (reducing agent) are added to powdered potassium permanganate (strong oxidising agent), a vigorous reaction accompanied by self-ignition starts. The reaction takes place as a result of the strong oxidising properties of the potassium permanganate and at the same time the reducing properties of the glycerol. The process can be roughly described by the chemical equation:
14KMnO4(s) + 4C3H5(OH)3(l) → 7K2CO3(s) + 7Mn2O3(s) + 5CO2(g) + 16H2O(g).
Planned and performed by Marina Stojanovska, Miha Bukleski and Vladimir Petruševski, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
14KMnO4(s) + 4C3H5(OH)3(l) → 7K2CO3(s) + 7Mn2O3(s) + 5CO2(g) + 16H2O(g).

Čeština: Demonstrace reakce mezi silným oxidačním a redukčním činidlem. Pokud nakapeme glycerol na práškový manganistan draselný, dojde k prudké reakci a samozapálení směsi.
14 KMnO4(s) + 4 C3H5(OH)3(l) → 7 K2CO3(s) + 7 Mn2O3(s) + 5 CO2(g) + 16 H2O(g)
