Summary

Description
English: A waterspout over lake Peipus. The photo is taken on August 19, 2021 at 19:13 local summer time (14:13 GMT) from the lake shore (location 59°00'8.21"N 27°21'0.36"E) approximately in the East direction, using a telephoto x8 zoom lens. The photo was not taken by an atmospheric scientists, but rather by a physicist active in experimental optics who just happened to be "in the right place at the right time". The observation data are submitted to the Estonian database for the reports on extreme atmospheric phenomena https://eav.meteo.net.ee. A large rain cloud was drifting over the lake to the East, apparently some kilometers away from the shore line, and a waterspout was periodically formed beneath it, first observed at 18:42 to the South from the location 58°59'51"N 27°17'38"E. Unfortunately the observer was not in possession of a camera at that time, and in half an hour the cloud had already moved more than 10 km to the East. This is apparently the first report of a waterspout observation over the northern part of lake Peipus, which can be considered as a new local indicator of climate change.
Eesti: Foto on tehtud 19.08.2021 kell 19:13 Peipsi põhjarannikul ligikaudse suunaga ida poole, kohast koordinaatidega 59°00'8.21"N 27°21'0.36"E, kasutades teleobjektiivi (x8 zoom). Vaatlusega seotud andmed on edastatud Eesti Äikesevaatlejate Võrgu andmebaasi https://eav.meteo.net.ee.
