Français : Daria Gamsaragan (1902-1986) est une artiste sculptrice, médailliste et autrice de livres. Arménienne, née à Alexandrie (Égypte), elle a fait toute sa carrière en France, elle a été naturalisée française en 1967. Élève d’Antoine Bourdelle, son talent de portraitiste a été très vite reconnu. Ses nombreux modèles furent aussi bien les personnes qu’elle côtoyait, ses amis proches, sa famille ou des personnalités en vue à l’époque. Cet autoportrait date probablement de années 1940. On reconnait son regard profond et bienveillant, son sourire qui ne la quittait jamais, son menton affirmé, son élégance, sa force intérieure.
English: Daria Gamsaragan (1902-1986) is an artist sculptor, medalist and author of books. Armenian, born in Alexandria (Egypt), she spent her entire career in France, she obtained the French citizenship in 1967. A pupil of Antoine Bourdelle, her talent as a portraitist was soon recognized. Her models ranged from the people she knew, to her close friends, family, and prominent personalities at the time. This self-portrait probably dates from the 1940s. One can recognize her deep and benevolent gaze, her smile that never left her, her pronounced chin, her elegance, her inner strength.
