Demodex folliculorum is a small mite that lives on the skin of humans, mainly on the skin of the face. There are 2 species, Demodex folliculorum is longer and lives in the hair follicle, Demodex brevis is shorter and stubby and lives in the sebaceous glands and meibomian glands.
"Demodex mites lack an anus and are thought to store their feces internally in a crystallized form", thus dark granules are seen on the opisthosoma.
