Description
East Asia expert Eleanor Holgate Lattimore (1895-1970) and her husband Owen Lattimore (1900-1989), shown here in publication publicity for their new book Silks, Spices, and Empire (Delacorte Press, 1968). After graduating from Northwestern University in 1915, Eleanor Holgate had studied and taught in China. The Lattimores married in 1925 and she later described their fantastic wedding journey from Peking to India in Turkestan Reunion (1934).
