A benevolent spirit of Tulu region; During the solar month of KarkaTaka called Aati in Tulu the members of the Nalke community (Spirit impersonators) go from house to house with the make up and costumes appropriate to the spirit KaLaNYja, sing the song and perform ritual dance and sprinkle turmeric powder, salt, charcoal powder to ward off the influence of evil spirits and for the welfare of cattle as well as the members of the household
