GLAM Wiki 2014 is scheduled to take place at the Tec de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de México (Monterrey Tec, Mexico City Campus) from April 24th to April 26th.
Theme/Purpose
editMexico has some of the finest and most diverse public and private cultural heritage organizations and institutions in the world, with Mexico City, one of the cities with the highest number of museums. The digital age offers new and exciting ways to diffuse this knowledge globally. While Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs) can offer access to relatively few people in a face-to-face environment, on-line they can reach many more. With Wikipedia/Wikimedia, that global audience is over half a billion people worldwide.
This conference is open to both cultural heritage professionals and those already involved with Wikipedia/Wikimedia (Wikimedians). The purpose is to share ideas of what is being done, new possibilities for the future and to tackles issues related to technology and cultural heritage. This conference is being hosted by the Tec of Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de México, which is at the forefront not only in research related to issues of digital and open culture, but also has been collaborating actively with Wikipedia since 2010, sharing images from its archives and developing projects through its campus library.
The first two days are dedicated to presentations and discussions related to the use of digital resources, technical, legal and cultural issues, from both Mexican and global perspectives. These days will feature speakers and workshop leaders from academia, GLAM's already sharing content online and experts from Wikipedia. Saturday is dedicated to the more practical issues of working with Wikimedia, with workshops to develop ideas and get started.
This event is sponsored by the Wiki Borregos group of the university. For more information contact Thelmadatter at leigh at itesm dot mx
