Purpose of the report
editThis form is for organizations receiving Annual Plan Grants to report on their results to date. For progress reports, the time period for this report will the first 6 months of each grant (e.g. 1 January - 30 June of the current year). For impact reports, the time period for this report will be the full 12 months of this grant, including the period already reported on in the progress report (e.g. 1 January - 31 December of the current year). This form includes four sections, addressing global metrics, program stories, financial information, and compliance. Please contact APG/FDC staff if you have questions about this form, or concerns submitting it by the deadline. After submitting the form, organizations will also meet with APG staff to discuss their progress.

1. number of total participants | 243 | 640 | 277 | EDU: We were aiming for 800 participants by the end of the year. Regarding the situation with lockdowns this is after all a very positive number. If we talk about unique participants, then this nr. is obviously slightly lower (477). Mainly due to repetitive visits at Wikiclubs, which are desirable. Returning participants are becoming regular editors.
Multimedia: Taking pictures in programs Mediagrant and We Photograph Czechia: In the 2020 we had 23 active photographers in WPC activity (10 was expected) and 2 in the older brother of the project, Mediagrant. Community + GLAM programs: we organized 5 offline events (WikiGap in Prague and Brno, an editathon in Volary, Wiki Prague Pride and NGO training on Wikipedia) and three online contests. Hvezda Svobody lasted from 2019 as well as conducted in 2020 Czech Wiki Photo and Czechoslovakia 1948-1989. It made 149 participants together and extended the total 2020 goal of 100 persons. In the second part of the year, we organized an open debate with experts “How to share on the internet”, in which 20 people took part. We organized one online event - “Sucho” editathon for Veolia employees. Many new and old members joined a local edition of international challenges; “Describe a monument” and “Asian month”. In total for a year 2021, 244 participants were taken into account. Wikidata/Tech: We had 5 events, where we were open for public space. Other work is related to divergent style like: one people creates external ID, second communicates with institution, third imports data to Wikidata and others are fixing data. |
2. number of newly registered users | 136 | 241 | 1 | EDU: Regarding the situation in spring this is a very good result, we almost reached the set goal of 300. The more we cooperate in coherence with Multimedia and wikidata programmes, the more likely we will face overlap of newcomers and newly registered which will be hard to detect, distribute between the programmes. Or better to say, we can identify through which activity they recently registered but most likely they will appear in more then one metrics and individuals across the programmes.
Multimedia: Taking pictures in programs Mediagrant didn’t attract any new participants, on the other hand We Photograph Czechia project was enforced by 28 new users (10 was the goal in 2020). Even though there was a postponement of wide promotion of the WPC program and its contest, Czech Wiki Photo, outside of the core members, 18 photographers submitted their works. 15 new users joined the contest Asian month and 39 were active during the contest Describe the Monument. Community + GLAM programs: 42 new users took part in the 5 aforenamed events (45 was the goal for 2020) and 98 in 3 online contests. There were 8 participants at two events: Wiki Prague Pride and NGO training (4 at each). There were 7 editors active in terms of developing a Sucho project, 3 of them were newcomers. 3. number of content pages created or improved, across all Wikimedia projects | 22641 | 1854 | 190429 | EDU: Educational programmes in general don't necessarily focus on content added, the focus more on creating positive first experience with Wiki activities and possibly positive first user and editing experience, therefore we may have many content which is not finally published or people rather trying first small editions instead creating whole articles, yet still EDU section contributes to adding content to wiki sites.
Multimedia: Taking pictures in programs Mediagrant, We Photograph Czechia, Czech Wiki Photo and Wikiexpedition: cca 21,321 content pages was created or edited (Nr. consists of new or edited WP, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons pages.), which is far better than we expected - even in the Covid19 times. 10,000 was the total goal for 2020. Community + GLAM programs: 1320 was created or edited (10,000 content pages is the goal for 2020). We were not successful especially in gaining new files from GLAM institutions which were set up as a goal. The outcome, from editathons is usually much less relevant in this case. Multimedia: Community + GLAM programs: In first half we we had 16 active cooperations: U.S. Embassy, American center, Embassy od Sweden, Czech Women Lobby, Authors of Kapky na kameni book, Nesehnutí organisation, The Department of Sociology at Masaryk University in Brno, Gender Nora organisation, Prague Zoo and 7 more thanks to the Volary editathon (The town hall of Volary, Cultural and information center of Prachatice, Museum of Prachatice, Monument catalog of Volary, Youth centre of Prachatice, Kohoutí kříž, Zaniklé obce). In the second part of the year, we established some strong and profitable connections with local partners, such as Vaclav Havel Library. We used Czech Techsoup to help us with PR and we continued our communication with Goethe Institute (it had to be put aside due to COVID). We started a collaboration with the commercial sector - Sucho editathon for Veolia employees and local creative agency, Pure Stuff. Telling your program stories - all programs
editPlease tell the story of each of your programs included in your proposal. This is your chance to tell your story by using any additional metrics (beyond global metrics) that are relevant to your context, beyond the global metrics above. Wikimedia Czech Republic works in 2020 through three programsː A. Multimedia & Community Programs, B. EDUcational Programs and C. Wikidata/Tech Programs.
All three programs are cross-cutting by three main scopes: Diversity, Capacity Building and Partnerships. Diversity mainly from the scope of gender and age.
We are be focused on this target groupsː newcomers in general, seniors / librarians, minors & students / teachers, women and experts.
A. Multimedia & Community Programs

Multimedia & Community Programs: Programs are focused on the building of diverse community and partnerships. These activities often go hand in hand.
- In the previous period, we were focused on supporting community activities - whether content creation or community-generated activities. This year, our intention was to be mainly focused on our “offline” community - members who we can meet in-person, mainly in offline space. This way, we want to attract diverse newcomers and new members to the active community through organizing the offline (in-person) events - like editathons, workshops etc. Within the themes, we are more aware of supporting the diverse-theme events to attract a diverse community. This intention was affected by global health circumstances, but so far, we were able to fulfil most of our plans.
- We continue to support the experienced or “offline” community within their traditional activities - where they can be focused on creating new content or learning new skills amongst them (Capacity Building). Thanks to extended fund for all Individual Community Projects, they can be organized independently by the engaged community members.
- Within Multimedia programs, we are more focused on developing step by step cooperation and partnership with strategic central institutions and experts within. Now rely more heavily on our experiences. In the last period, we made the rules of mutual cooperation more readable and now we apply them in creating diverse partnerships with various forms. Very often we are building the partnerships on the base of cooperation in organizing thematic events for the public.
I. PARTNERSHIP & GLAM
editOur second attemp for GLAM partnership was Post Bellum - Prague's NGO, which documents the memories of witnesses of the important historical phenomenon of the 20th century. There were many levels of possible cooperation (WiR, sharing of pictures, videos, database, editathons). We started with editathons and other Educational programs and other cooperation is under the negotiation.
The third one is the National Technical Museum in Prague. There was no action due to COVID̠ pandemy, but a meeting is currently being arranged.
The fourth one is Prague ZOO. For a half of a year Zoo hired wiki-resident to cooperate. Unfortunately they had to stop the residency program due to COVID pandemy, but they desided to train their own employee to be a wiki-resident. Now she is working on new articles.
At the end of the year we participated in the conference Archives, Libraries, Museums in the Digital World 2020. Our presentation attracted the attention of the director of the Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Hradec Králové. Mr. Director was very interested in our activities and in the end we agreed on GLAM cooperation in which Museum will hire a wiki-resident. This will be our second residency program with a hired wikipedian, and it promise many new items for Wikimedia Commons.
On every meeting we introduce our work and aims, we underline the benefits of GLAM cooperations and free licences and show the real examples or statistics. We significantly edited our main GLAM page with guidelines for GLAM cooperations for institutions and local GLAM volunteers, database of current GLAM projects, planned events and archive of the past ones. We have started to plan several new partnerships and conected events for Wiki projects on topics "Drought" and "Czechoslovakia 1948-89" and events for LGBT community and NGOs. They should be held in the second half of 2020.
II. COMMUNITY PROGRAM

edit- Capacity building of active members
editThanks to our project which enables support for community members Individual Community Projects two wikipedists organized the 3-day editathon in the town of Volary. 11 Czech and 4 German editors took part. They collaborated with 7 local organizations. Our members ran a contest 'Describe a Monument, which is already an annual tradition. 66 people took part in it, 39 out of them were newly registered. What was definitely a well-developed, were the contest's page and some of PR activities planned by volunteers. In the second part of the year, a team of volunteers organized a contest 'the Asian month (October 2020) through the support of community projects. 33 users participated by working on 351 pages.
One event planned by the community (Volary II), was postponed due to growing restrictions and lockdown.
- Newcomers & advanced users
editAs a local chapter, we organized a editing event WikiGap again and by that, we joined the international campaign. For the first time we decided to run it in Prague and Brno at the same time. 32 newcomers from 55 attendees and 8 organizations took part. One of our active members made a short movie from WikiGap editathon.
We reached out to new target groups, such as LGBT community or non profit sector. We organized editathons for each of the mentioned groups(Pride Wiki Editaton and How to write on Wikipedia for NGOs). The presence of participants was limited, but we have received a positive response from those who participated and some feedback from those, who couldn’t join activities due to the growing second wave of pandemic restrictions.
In the beginning of 2020 we announced three winners of our editing contest The Star of Freedom, which was running from 2019. We decided to modify the rules and based on the same historical approach, we decided to run a second edition of the contest, this time we called it Czechoslovakia 1948 - 1989. Thanks to the cross-team involvement, we received great support with PR which rapidly increased our visibility mainly thanks to the spectacular video promotion. The contest had additionally a banner on Wikipedia). An engagement of our EDU teamlead to organizing an editathon for students from one of Prague's high schools. As a final step, we wrote a blog post to present the Czechoslovakia 48-89 contest results: there were 68 new articles and 81 editions in total, 104 new pictures added to Commons. We granted 4 of the most active users with prizes and we would like to continue it in line with the development of WikiProject Czechoslovakia 1948 - 1989.
In a collaboration with local partners, we organized a public debate on How to share on the internet. Through this activity, we wanted to promote our mission and the question about copyright, as well as attract people from different fields. 20 persons in total, out of which 15 people not related to the Wikimedia movement participated. We managed to invite various speakers: lawyer, influencer, journalist, photographer and Wikipedist as well as we ensured the recording of the session.We started working on a crucial and complicated topic related to climate change, Wikiproject Drought. One of our active members expressed interest in managing the project but due to COVID we couldn't organize an editathon and decided to postpone the event. At the same time, we started a collaboration with a local office of Veolia (a company responsible for water management, waste management, and energy services), whose employees created a team of voolunteers eager to work on editing articles related to their field of expertise. So far one editathon was organized and 4 people were present. We see that there is an opportunity there to run more events with them in the future.
Photographers
editOur newest activity We Photograph Czechia is becoming a quite a successful program. Almost all of our experienced photographers engaged in it in 2020 and it effectively brings a lot of new images to Commons and illustrated Wikidata items - which is one of the purpose of it (see the chart).
In the spring we also made three new videotutorials for new volunteers which are now a part of We Photograph Czechia's Guide. Next we ensured two wikipedists from our community who became mentors to photographers-newcomers. As well as we were communicating with newcomers through our FB group, which is for them easy to reach. We also run a campaign thanks to an advertising banner - displayed on the Czech Wikipedia in July - which drew attention to this program on a large scale. The second year of our competition Czech Wiki Photo was organized and we received 83 pictures in total. We perceive it as a huge success, firstly because there were 18 fresh participants, secondly because the jury consisting of professional photographers held a heated discussion as the quality of works was in majority excellent. We wrote a blog post to sum up the contest and present winners (first 3 places and Audience Award). A couple of our active members contributed to ensuring the seamless course of CWP. Two of our activities independently organized by our active members brought some of new content to Commons and Wikidata: Mediagrant in total: 1303 new files (pictures on WikiCommons, Wikidata and texts on Wikipedia) Wikiexpedition Plzeň-Sever 4632 new items (pictures on WikiCommons, Wikidata and texts on Wikipedia)
III. ADVOCACY
editIn 2020 there was no new urgent legal issue to deal with. The process of implementation of the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market into Czech legislative is still in process. We were one of the stakeholders and had sent our statements to the Czech Ministry of Culture.
With Pure Stuff marketing agency - one of our new partners who wants to support our activities for photographers - we held a panel discussion on Copyright and free licences.
Some legal questions and asks emerged among community members in 2020. We helped with answering with the assistance of our friendly Law Office bpv Braun Partners who help us pro bono.
EDUcational Programs: Within the EDUcational Programs, are focused on newcomers, local development and sustainability.
In the previous period, we have created a team of lecturers that allows us to reach our goals on this field and cover topics related to Wikimedia-project contribution. Within the EDUcational Program, we are keeping the main target groups, that should bring the diversity into the community on the one hand and help us sharing the main target - become the “essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge”. New circumstances were challenging but we were able to offer most of our activities in an online space. That brought new experiences and extended the offer of our activities.
- In the framework of the activity for seniors, we are more focused on more targeted and long-term support for librarians across the country, so the libraries can form local courses for seniors - and share this know-how sustainably and locally.
- Other target group - teachers - allow us to reach the minors and students in general. Program Students write Wikipedia (for university and high school teachers) and Teach (with) Wiki (high and primary school teachers) are both focused on spreading the idea of free knowledge between young people. We want to create the conditions, where we can work with our cooperative teachers in the long term scope.
I. SENIORS WRITE WIKIPEDIA
editSeniors Write Wikipedia courses
editAt the beginning of 2020 the expectations towards the senior programme were high. We had to pull the hand brake during the spring semester and slow down dramatically.
We manage to complete 1 before lockdown (České Budějovice), 3 other courses have started and have been interrupted/cancelled. 1 course in Prague has been in the end run as blended – started as residential and has been completed online with remaining active seniors.
We started new cooperation in Ostrava city in the cultural centre “Stará arena” – region that has been selected for development in 2020. Unfortunately this cooperation remained frozen due covid.
The autumn brought us back, switching fully to the online version of courses. We organised 2 beginners’ courses and 1 advanced course as interactive webinars.

editIn the spring we were still in the process of adapting and learning by doing.
We manage to finish one course as blended (mentioned above), in the 2nd part of lockdown we run our first fully online based course for seniors in cooperation with Elpida - we cooperate with Elpida on residential courses since several years, but together we were able to pilot new online version of the course for seniors, where they provided framework and technological solution while we organised the content and methodology for online course, PR was done in collaboration.
In the next few months we worked through a manual for online courses. We started a process of onboarding our lecturers into running online courses one by one. It is important to mention that a good part of them are in senior age themselves and many never before worked so much online. We became fluent with using ZOOM, Meet and Whereby for our activities, slowly adding other tools such as jamboard or using break out rooms in Zoom for parallel group work in courses.
Online Wikiclub
editWikiclubs are regionally organised support measure activities for course alumni and other wiki-enthusiast to meet and edit or regular base (periodically weekly, monthly or irregular based). Due lockdown we quickly organised an online version of Wikiclub; that is accessible from anywhere in the country during scheduled time slots (typically Wednesday afternoon). It is possible to pre-book consultation with experienced Wikipedian, for that we used Whereby meeting rooms which do not require further registration in order to access. Online Wikiclub became another success story of 2020 - it will remain as an additional support measure for our educational and editaton based activities and it is undergoing further developments. By the end of the year we decided to involve more community members in taking the “shifts” to make it widely accessible during the difficult times of pandemic.
Other complementary & development community activities in Seniors‘ programme
edit- Seniors’ New Year meet up in Wikimedia premises with great attendance
- Senior Wikitown Prachatice - in the only window of rather regular life maintenance in our country (July-September) we organised a small community version of Senior Wikitown with our senior lecturers and few participants. It has been one little sparkle moment for those who attended.
- Alumni club – founded in 2020, open call for alumni to join this group of active peers to help us during promotion events, be the storytellers sharing their experience in media and co-lecture senior activities
- featured Wikimenia & Education Community member of the month in Wikimedia Outreach – Helena Dvořáková librarian, independent senior lecturer and active Wikimedian working e.g. on newcomers experience and Help interface
- Interview with Daniela Opatrná, alumni course attendee about her path to editing Wikipedia and heart-breaking story about her uncle persecuted by the regime.
- Interview with Lucie Schubert – edu manager at I60.cz – Internet portal for seniors.

Lecturers’ team
edit- Further development and support of lecturers’ team is essential in order to cover the rising demand of senior courses. We welcomed 4 new trainers in the team, one is a senior age, 2nd one is a young active member of the community with great passion for educational activities, 2 other lecturers are active members of the community.
- In March and September we organised lecturers’ meet up, both ending up in an online setting.
Cooperation with Libraries and training & support to librarians
edit- consultation with National Library and SKIP representative regarding the process of accreditation of our courses
- new leaflet about cooperation of Wikimedia and libraries in making (in cooperation with GLAM and Wikidata programmes)
- transfer of the residential training for librarians into online version - ready when needed, in future we would like to annually organise one volume in online version complementary to classic residential courses.

- Week of Libraries with Wikimedia 2020 - the theme has been regional schooling- connected to heritage of Jan Amos Komensky
- New guide for uploading files on Commons - as a result of cooperation on Week of Libraries with Wikipedia we have a new tutorial, now serving to the general public at Wikipedia. But it started as need analyses - what we could improve for librarians to take part in the challenge.
- The autumn volume of librarian courses in the National Library took place as blended - we started with in person training and remain online for the rest.
- private tailor made course for team of Benešov library in May 2020 - regional library with aspiration to organise own senior courses from autumn 2020 - it was one of few physical activities we managed to deliver during the pandemic period thanks to flexibility and willingness on all sides.
II. STUDENTS WRITE WIKIPEDIA
edit- we underwent planned revision of the programme including refreshing cooperation and contact with some of the teachers and collecting their actual needs - it resulted into a more clear Workplan for 2021 and Strategic Plan WMCZ 21-24.
- we revisited provided support and methodological materials for the teachers and active community members; the result is so-called Info-pack, info poster on the programme and presentation which can be used when introducing the programme, this allow us to speak with one voice about the programme, the package has been sent out to available teacher contacts from our database and is being further up-dated

- using the materials and inspiration from the international platform and Wikimedia Education Foundation - we further used and promoted some of the offered central materials such as eduwikichallenge, lesson plans, we got inspired by the Wikibridges MOOC thanks to sharing of Wikimedia Argentina or regular calls.

Cooperation with Memory of Nation, autumn festival Velvet at schools
editWe started a cooperation with Post Bellum (Memory of Nation) which documents the memories of witnesses of the important historical phenomenon of the 20th century and tries to pass these stories on to the broader public. First outcome in 2020 is an offer of two workshops for high school students listed in Velvet at school.

Thanks to this offer we started a cooperation with Prague based gymnasium GPJP, where we worked with 90 students. The cooperation was evaluated positively and will further continue in 2021.

III. TEACH (WITH) WIKI
editProgramme Teach (with) Wiki is different from the two other programs mentioned above. Since it is not primarily focusing on developing content at Wikipedia, but rather at positive first experiences when using Wiki, understanding what OER means and how it can function etc. different metrics should be applied. Lately we face this multifaceted process where our two programs Students Write Wikipedia and Teach (With) Wiki are often functioning complementary or are as well very often overlapping with some of the specific actions and when it comes to PR. Looking at projects such as “Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom” we can see it is a general trend in the Wikimedia world.
Many points described already at Students Write Wikipedia would at least partially apply for reporting about Teach (with) Wiki.
This year goals of the program have been affected by the pandemic more than we would wish. We faced tired overworked teachers without the capacity to learn new things and being creative. So to keep bringing yet another stimulus of what you can do online, provide yet another complete system to lean in became for many simply overwhelming. Yet at the same time it opens many new areas to focus on, biases to rethink. How we can effectively contribute to future online based education? What is the role of Wikimedia in the future of education? Because we still believe that Wikimedia belongs to education.
We managed to participate in several initiatives during the lockdown, where our lecturers were sharing how to use Wikipedia in education, 3 webinars have been as well recorded (mentioned in the Students Write Wikipedia section), 2 specifically targeting teachers.
Besides that we pilot the first online course for pupils/students “Writing Wikipedia” and it has been repeated again before the end of the year. Although the course has a very clear structure and perfect guidance from the lecturer we faced very low interest in it and decided not to repeat it again in the upcoming period. It was perhaps asking too much of commitment for pupils/students which are overdosed with distance learning and being asked to be online for a great part of the day.
We have a new logo for program Teach (With) Wiki.
We held several meetings and worked on our networking potential. The result is we will be present at several regional conferences and educational events across the country with our programme contribution during the autumn period - partnerships such as with GEG (Google Education Group) etc.

IV. OPEN EDUCATION PROGRAM

- Wikidata training for lecturers - based on need analysis in the team, there was a demand to get trained in Wikidata in order to see how we can apply this Wikimedia project more in education. Training took place during lecturers’ meeting in September.
- creating a central database with profile and capacity of each trainer/lecturer in order to build more versatile team which can support Wikimedia CZ across the programmes and therefore create more connections between those different programme lines - under construction

General progress in EDU programmes:
editBesides regular work on each of the described EDU programs, we have been working extensively on following tasks;
- GDPR maintenance and revision - centralised approach to personal data, manuals for our external cooperators, lecturers and other partner, deleting old data and working with databases
- creation, maintenance and writing of static text to our new Wordpress based website www.wikimedia.cz
- regular maintenance of the edu News section at the new website. As well available in English for quick up-dates on what we are working on.
- networking & covering activities such as conferences, guild meetings and fairs where we can present our portfolio and work on better PR for the educational offer of Wikimedia CZ - has been partially limited due covid pandemic.
EDU: LESSONS LEARNT
editOnline is the way to go - we rethought a good part of our regular edu activities, invested time and effort and changed several methodologies. At the beginning this resulted in a feeling of slowing down, but it paid back since then. It was a shift of mindset, the art of possibility opened up to us. We are harvesting that effort now in 2021 with full range or activities.
Among many we need to highlight that the online courses for seniors work above expected, individuals can reach us no matter the location in the country and we are on our maximum capacities still adding courses.
Diverse pool of lecturers - it has been a progressive path since the initial idea to build such a pool. In 2020 when we were paralised in the ½ half of the year with what is happening, we backed off and start to work with the closest target group - our lecturer team, empowering them to take the learning path into digital world of education with us, and slowly one by one the core team have joined in. It was definitely a year of gaining strength, getting more individuals on board and making stronger connections between the pool and community. We are in more regular contact with the pool, keeping the exchange of good practices floating.
Interdependence of the WMCZ programmes - it is a conscious choice to come a few steps closer and find bridges between our programmes. In 2020 good part of the educational activities happened connected to our other programmes or core activities. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between what happened in EDU, Wikidata, community or GLAM and we are proud of that! It makes us stronger and more legible to the outside world and towards community.
Cooperation is the key - we started a few strategic partnerships in 2020 (such as the one with Memory of Nation/Post Bellum NGO), where we serve each other's needs. We can already see rather effective results in terms of how many people we can reach through such cooperations or how big added value they create to our own projects.
Wider range of activities - different target groups and different circumstances ask different solutions. We diversified our portfolio of activities (especially in Students write Wikipedia programme) and changed a little bit how we approach the public with our offer. Many of the educational formats we currently offer are not necessarily about enlarging Wikipedia but answer one or more of the needs in education and therefore we are being actively approached instead of knocking on doors all the time ourselves. Such a game changer!
It is good to be part of international community - enormous support and inspiration, feeling of unity have arrived from the international (edu) community - the fact we have been able to meet, share and support each other in this global pandemic time has been a special and strong experience, motivating element and source of learning. Our national challenges could be justified and put in a wider context. The big picture is sometimes essential.
C. Wikidata/Tech Programs

Wikidata/Tech Programs: Wikidata/Tech is the 3rd program of our chapter, focusing on a growing community of tech-savvy volunteers and Wikidata enthusiasts.
Without employees, we have strategically chosen areas where even volunteer force or minor contracts are enough to make a difference.
- The first goal is to continue serving as a contact point for important Czech institutions which are considering donating data to Wikidata. A list of Wikidata-related FAQs for institutions compiled/crowdsourced in a previous period definitely helps. We will also call a community meeting to define key data areas (because we have reached a point where we cannot give attention to all institutions asking for collaboration).
- The second goal is to continue collaboration with two or three high-profile organisations - especially with National Library of the Czech Republic, where we run a joint grant project to turn their authority database into a wikibase.
- The third goal encompasses all educational activities in the Wikidata program. This can be divided into 1) regular workshops (mostly for newbies) organized more centrally and 2) smaller hands-on events specializing on a specific tool or technical issue, which are usually community-organized and decentralized.
The overall goal for this year is to find our first staff, who could support all these goals within a long-scope period.
I. Wikidata outreach to institutions
editThanks to our collaboration with a leading Czech expert in database law, Dr Jakub Míšek, we have perfected our FAQ page for institutions interested in working with Wikidata. We can direct most inquiries on this topic to read that page and see if they can find the response there. So far this year, we have been in direct contact with at least 8 institutions already, several of which provided us with valuable data (eg. Provenio, AbART, Drobné památky).
II. Wikidata collaboration with high-profile organizations
editTwo high-profile institutions were identified this year and we subsequently devoted more attention to them in the passing year. The first is our long-running collaboration with the National Library of the Czech Republic. We received a WikiCite grant to fund a week-end joint workshop for librarians and wikidatists (report here in Czech). There, we envisioned a future where all bibliographical databases are available under an open license and as linked data. Eight people participated and a video-lecture on database law is available on Commons. In other news, we have made use of a open dataset, published by the National Library in a joint collaboration with WMCZ last year. As many as 75,000 people were imported into Wikidata as new items (example: Q95456617), improving coverage of notable Czech people in Wikidata.
The second high-profile organization is the Theatre Institute of the Czech Republic. We do not have time capacities and expert knowledge to help them organize their data and import them into Wikidata, but we negotiated with them a new position of a Wikidatist in Residence. This challenge was taken up by Jan Purkert (User:Purkii) and he has since updated thousands of items of Czech theatre buildings, theatres and theatre-related people in Wikidata. We are supporting Jan by giving him guidance and feed-back.
We are looking for next high-profile organization in the Czech Republic. We believe that the best choice is instution from public sector. Then we are in process of communication with Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, which is garant of open data in the Czech Republic.
III. Wikidata community support
editOrganizing events is time-consuming for volunteers and we have decided to decentralize this part of our program until we can find a dedicated employee (which we are working on as of July 2020). In effect, any Wikidata community member can organize a small event and give a talk on a topic of their choice and we will help them prepare for the event. In January 2020, the second such event has taken place: Josef Klamo gave a talk on OpenRefine, with 10 participants attending.
We have employee Michal Josef Špaček for our Wikidata/Tech program group from September 2020.
We organized Wikidata competition/hackathon for creating of connections between authorities in National Library of the Czech Republic and Wikidata. There was a online event as part of competition with lecturer for newcomers.

edit- Global metrics are an important starting point for grantees when it comes to measuring programmatic impact (Learning Patterns and Tutorial) but don’t stop there.
- Logic Models provide a framework for mapping your pathway to impact through the cause and effect chain from inputs to outputs to outcomes. Develop a logic model to map out your theory of change and determine the metrics and measures for your programs.
- Importantly, both qualitative and quantitative measures are important so consider both as you determine measures for your evaluation and be sure to ask the right questions to be sure to capture your program stories.
