I would like to reallocate funds previously allocated for dissemination ($1200) to compensation to the software developer Epantaleo.

Rationale

edit

Software development required more time than expected. In particular, software development consisted of three parts:

  • Back-end, or data extraction from Wiktionary
  • Front-end, or data visualization
  • Data management, or installation and configuration of the database management system on Wikimedia Labs (Virtuoso).

The part that took more time than expected was the last one, without which testing of the software was impossible. Because more time was needed, I requested a project extension from 6 months to 8 months and spent the additional time on software development.

While I did some dissemination, I wanted to first get a fully functional tool before involving users and the community in general. Further dissemination is anyways going to happen as I have already planned a trip to meet users in France and in Italy, and I am applying for funds to participate to Wikimania and WWW2017 where my paper on etytree has been accepted. Also I am writing another research paper on the project in collaboration with the Engineering Department in Bari, Italy, and the University of Grenoble, France, where my collaborators work. I am also contacting local Chapters to set up meetings and, most importantly, I am asking for a renewal of the project, as there are many possible improvements.
