Grants:IEG/Analytics for socking
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editThe extensive manipulation of Wikipedia by sockpuppet accounts.
What is your solution?
editAn initial feasibility study on a tool that would analyze the total contribution history of two or more editors and generate a rating estimating the likelihood that they are actually the same person.
Optional additional ideas:
- A tool that proactively identifies large sock networks on Wikipedia by analyzing large volumes of contribution records.
- A tool that, when a username is entered, analyzes contribution records to identify likely socks.
Project goals
editThe tool should identify a large number of socking accounts that would not otherwise be found. It should also improve the accuracy and fairness of SPI cases, by being more accurate than human judgement alone.
