edit- quantification of editor prowess is a great idea! Revanchist317 (talk) 14:54, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- Nice idea. It could motivate new editors to join Wikipedia also. Saung Tadashi (talk) 18:33, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- This is the best idea I've read here so far Dany0 (talk) 20:52, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- Formal Wikipedia education offerings and certification levels have the potential to increase the quality of the contributions made to Wikipedia. They could also lead to increased user engagement with Wikipedia, as they would be sources of accomplishment and recognition. Dcflyer (talk) 23:32, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- I would combine this and the idea for Wikademy. I've worked in the training and certification industries and online courses could be created that would lead to an online test and certificate. Certificates are a great way for a Wikipedian to demonstrate their knowledge and can also give them a good path to follow. Auldhouse (talk) 16:46, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
- I love the idea of quantifying skills and marking milestones for editors. Gamification's also a great way to keep users engaged. If the higher-end certifications are difficult enough and well-proctored they could be an excellent add on for a resume. → GS → ☎ → 19:53, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support, a refresh of wikipedia adventure would be useful. Slowking4 (talk) 01:19, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- I support your idea as very quiet 10 years account holder.I'm still nervous what I can do.Your idea will give some quiet users like me some kind of confidence. Angelorphan (talk) 09:08, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- Sometimes, people want to contribute to it but they do not know how to start. This is good for them. Khinelay (talk) 16:12, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- Can make new editors become professionals Aficaedictor (talk) 15:02, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Like it but have reservations about making results of "tests" public. I like that this takes the focus off of long-time contributors who are convinced that their sheer volume of edits makes them the best at what they do. This isn't always the case. However, I am concerned that it might make editors trying to contribute in a second language or just trying to get into a new area they're not great at yet feel "less than". If it were just classes, no way to show off your expertise, these problems would be solved. Brings its own new issues, though. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 01:31, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support Great idea, especially for those who enjoy editing but aren't savvy in what I call "wikispeak." I, for one, would love to increase my knowledge about that since I don't work in the tech field and self-teaching can only get you so far. As for the icon level/milestone/public test results -- loathe it all since it promotes competition and elitism, factors that, for the average individual, reduces receptiveness to learning rather than enhances it. A self-pacing, tiered-structured format, developed by experts and executed in a user-friendly manner would be terrific. A basic icon stating that one is a participant in such a program would be acceptable as a way to generate interest in the program, but without levels or self-promoting aspects. I'll be watching for this.Ouranista (talk) 04:03, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- Original idea: a certification. But it should only be considered a certification of technical skill in WP-editing, not a judgment of the content of edits. --Havang(nl) (talk) 09:45, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- Helping people correctly navigate their way around the creation and editting procedure is currently at short-coming on this site.
- At the very least, comprehensive and easy to understand guides are needed, although this idea sounds to be the best. JosterSA (talk) 11:54, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support Excellent idea. I think we also support the admins somehow. I imagine it can sometimes get world-weary at the top dealing with vandalism, quackery and edit wars all day, which can sometimes spill over into over-punishing some poor enthusiastic newbie over some minor innocent transgression. I've seen it happen and it can be terrible for Wikipedia's PR. Perhaps an Admins course, or a "morale refresher" course, or even a "Click here to tip your friendly admin" button might help? Jonathanischoice (talk) 22:55, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
- Have you seen Writing Wikipedia Articles, a free six week course developed under a grant in recent years? Hopefully it will be helpful to review how we approached designing such a course (and badges!) if designing something new. As the primary course designer I'd be happy to discuss if anybody pursues this idea. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 22:26, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- This is a nice idea, but is it addressing the issue? Isn't the health of the community more about interactions etc, not so much about how to do it. Jtamad (talk) 08:50, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support* Follow up I haven't heard anything about this in a year. It seems many of the endorsements favor a competitive environment which is counterproductive to the ideal learning environment, so I imagine the idea was shelved for the time being. As a professional educator of over 20 years, I can only hope that cooperative learning and shared responsibility remains Wikipedia's ethic and that the gaming mentality, where competition/titles leading to elitism thus negating inclusivity and reducing productivity, is kept in check.
