Grants:IdeaLab/A multilingual Wikiproject worklist based on Wikidata
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editCreating a campaign for improving Wikimedia articles e.g for an international day, an in person event is time consuming and strings together several tools, this is especially true when working across multiple languages. This leads to users having to have a large amount of preexisting knowledge to take part or a very long list of instructions.
Listeria dynamic lists offer some of the functionality of a tool to get around these problems however there are severl missing elements:
- No message at the top to introduce the project
- No way to start articles directly from the interface (increases the amount of knowledge people need to contribute)
- No way to translate articles directly from the interface (increases the amount of knowledge people need to contribute)
- No easy way for users to chose languages displayed, they just have to trawl through the table (not scalable for lots of languages, not universally inclusive).
- No way to add new languages and images to the Wikidata items from the interface
- Some of the outputs e.g an external URL just said CLAIMS in the table rather than the actual value
What is your solution?
editA new tool designed around reducing the preexisting knowledge needed to take part in contributing to WIkimedia projects. This tool may also be very useful for helping Wikiprojects to collaborate across languages. The tool would run off either a Wikidata query or a pagepile.
Sections
editCampaign title and description
editThis section allows people to describe the project, it also allows people to translate the description into other languages, somewhere there should also be a language selector for users.
Description of tasks section
editThis is standardised text over all campaigns explaining what can be done
Language selection
editAllows a user to select the languages they speak, when more than one language is selected then translation options are shown.
Item boxes
editThis shows:
- Image attached to the Wikidata item, if no image is attached it is possible to add one
- The title in the first language the user has selected which can be edited
- The Wikidata item description in the first language which can be edited
- The title in the second language the user has selected which can be edited
- The Wikidata item description in the first language which can be edited
- Two boxes showing the first and second language, when one box is selected the user is able to press a button to either start or edit an existing article (don't know how to do this for projects other than Wikipedia).
- If both boxes are highlighted and one article does not exist then a translate button will activate and the user will be taken to the content translation tool.
