Grants:IdeaLab/Develop a web browser for Wikipedians
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editAn ordinary web browser is not the best friend of Wikipedians. Instead, Wikipedians often have to install extensions or plugins to their web browsers, so that their work could become more convenient.
What is your solution?
editDevelop a web browser that is particularly for Wikipedians. Examples of its functions:
- Grab non-free images from other websites and upload them to local Wikipedia, with images' copyright information automatically filled.
- Notify users of changes on watchlist even when they are on other websites.
- Help users oversee the edits of Wikipedians whom they have watched (probably by subscribing to related RSS feeds?)
- Help users bookmark reliable sources on the Internet by automatically recording their information, such as author, date and publisher.
[March 27 addition] A user from Chinese Wikipedia local community suggests that the browser could have auto-complete function. For example, when "WP:NPOV" is typed on the address bar, the user would be directed to "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view".

- That's a good idea. It's not difficult to add extensions to open source browsers like Chromium or Firefox. Browsers can automatically refresh pages like Watchlist, or some users' contributions. Techyan (talk) 14:20, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
