editI started with creating new pages at Wikipedia, and then moving to citizen journalism at Wikinews after a while. The latter involved quite a bit of images licensing activity so now I'm pretty familiar with fair use, grant of license, and licenses of media across different Wikimedia projects. This entire activity is rewarding and I keep doing all those things with a passion for the open philosophy of the Wikimedia project. As time allows, I do everything I can to use the potential of people, encourage them to keep contributing if they have a potential for a needed but rare field, and a lot of other things -- so the project moves to a relevant direction efficiently. :)

editHi, there, I am a female wikipedian, active on German Wikipedia since 2005. I love to write articles about mediaeval English churches, rhubarb, lemon squeezers, paintings and in the past I also wrote about some legal stuff. Last but not least, I have initiated a number of offline meet-ups and events for Wikipedians in Berlin and other German cities. editI regularly keep a finger on the pulse of the English Wikipedia community and try to bring attention to the innovative ideas of others as I wander Wikipedia's vast network of WikiProject communities. Read my work here.
I would like to see development of the collaborative and social functionality of Wikimedia sites, better analytics for measuring and keeping track of the various Wiki communities, stronger ties between different languages of Wikipedia, better standardization of useful tools and templates, a greater abundance of unique initiatives and contests, efforts to improve coverage of underdeveloped topics and neglected geographic areas, plans to correct the movement's gender and cultural imbalances, and ways to make all Wikimedia sites more inviting for potential long-term contributors. Some of these wishes may be too ambitious for the Individual Engagement Grants to achieve, but progress only comes when people are willing to take a chance.

editI am wikipedian since end of 2003 mainly in the German Wikipedia where I am writing articles. As a zoologist I concentrate on articles on animals but as a guy who's interested in nearly everything, a long list of articles arose and several of them got featured or good articles (in de-wp called "exzellent" and "lesenswert"). In my first year I started to create a writing contest for authors that will be held the 19. time this september - also in that first year I became one of the founders of Wikimedia Deutschland and board member. Now it's nearly 10 years later and I played a lot of wikipedia games, wrote lots of stuff, installed lots of contests and worked in several projects - the latest are the German WikiCup and a photo project for festivals called Festivalsommer 2013 financed by a grant from Wikimedia Germany. This summer I also joined a workshop of the WMF Program Evaluation & Design Team in Budapest and I am aware of evaluation processes. editGreetings from Khmer Wikipedia! This is Vantharith from Cambodia. Currently, I'm based in Seoul, South Korea, but expect to graduate early next year and to be moving back to Phnom Penh permanently around Feb/Mar 2014. I have been utilizing social media to engage with our community online. As a result, it delivers more awareness of Wikipedia movement and some happens to start contributing. However, further community education and outreach is much needed, in particularly in offline mode. Thus, I am currently brainstorming and working on a comprehensive plan for offline community building and outreach to both engage actively with existing contributors and also recruit potential members to give myself a try editing Khmer Wikipedia.
I will update our Khmer Wikipedia community progress from time to time. Please expect my shout-out for help in the near future. Thank you!

editMy home wiki is Russian Wiktionary, where I am sysop and bureaucrat. For several years I am also sysop at the Belorussian and Ukrainian Wiktionaries (I am also a long-time editor at Russian Wikipedia, Commons etc). My idea is based on my rather extensive experience in several Wiktionary projects (more than 180,000 edits in ru:wikt, more than 4000 at uk:wikt, more than 4000 at be:wikt, about 200 at en:wikt; more than 200,000 edits in whole across the WMF projects). The point is: the interface and functionality inherited from Wikipedia do not fit the specific character and needs of the dictionary. Actually it is a serious limiting factor there. Switching from the plain-text editing to something like object-oriented database editing paradigm with fully customizable views and standardized formats would substantially improve the quality of the dictionaries, simplify the interoperability between different language projects, accelerate and automate the development of the smaller projects. The change implies serious transformations in the project's engine.

editHi everyone. I started to edit Wikipedia in 2005, and now serve as a sysop on Japanese Wikipedia. I am looking forward to meeting new people and ideas through the program.
My primary focus is to reach out to individuals or small groups who have little experience in grant application but have wonderful ideas. I understand that Individual/Small group applicants encounter different challenges than that of bigger groups. Personal situation (ie. job, family, financial, medical etc.) has bigger impact on their overall performance during application and reporting. As a former applicant who experienced similar challenge, I want to offer casual mentoring opportunity to anyone who needs help overcome the challenges.
I spent my teen years in Japan, and then moved to the United States, South Korea, and now Pakistan. Based on my experience, I am sure that Wikimedia Movemen’s potential is huge in Asian region, and I am waiting to hear from anyone in the region!
