Grants:IdeaLab/PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING

PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING
When humans are told to the right thing before they perform a negative act, they may think twice and not perform the negative act. My idea is before any edit or message to users, they will be warned to "DO THE RIGHT THING" through a message. Another message editors can receive is that "people whether they are adults, kids, or elderly use Wikipedia as a source, so please don't insert incorrect information."

Project idea

edit

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

edit

I want to stop incorrect editing and harassment on wikipedia articles.

What is your solution?

edit

My solution is that prior to the edit being inserted into a wikipedia article, a message will inform them to do the right thing and that people of all ages use Wikipedia as a source, so please don't insert false information.

Project goals

edit

As a result of this idea, I believe that articles will be less likely edited incorrectly.

Opposition

  • This is not going to stop trolls and vandals at all. It probably just provides them with more amusement. It's also very belittling to the 99.99% of well behaved Wikipedians to have a message begging them not to be a bad boy at every edit. --Doveofsymplegades (talk) 07:38, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
