Project idea

edit

What Wikimedia project(s) and specific areas will you be evaluating?

edit

Is this project measuring a specific space on a project (e.g. deletion discussions), or the project as a whole?
There is no Wikimedia projects and specific areas will you be evaluating

Describe your idea. How might it be implemented?

edit

Provide details about the method or process of how you will evaluate your community or collect data. Does your idea involve private or personally identifying information? Take a look at the Privacy Policy for Wikimedia’s guidelines in this area.
The stack overflow point helps people getting encouraged in doing things. This should also be implemented in Wikimedia

Are there experienced Wikimedians who can help implement this project?

edit

If applicable, please list groups or usernames of individuals who you can work with on this project, and what kind of work they will do.

How will you know if this project is successful? What are some outcomes that you can share after the project is completed?

edit

How would your measurement idea help your community make better decisions?

edit

After you are finished measuring or evaluating your Wikimedia project, how do you expect that information to be used to benefit the project?

Do you think you can implement this idea? What support do you need?

edit

Do you need people with specific skills to complete this idea? Are there any financial needs for this project? If you can’t implement this project, can you scale down your project so it is doable?

About the idea creator

edit

Hello, to the person whoever is reading this! I am Karthik Srivijay and I am a 13-year old who codes to help. I am basically a programmer who unofficially considers it as a curriculum. This is my GitHub account: http://github.com/KartSriv. As the above website shows all the projects I've worked on 26 Public Projects and 4 Private Projects in a total of 30 Projects. Let's cut back to the chase, I've always wanted to use my resources and talent to do something useful for the society and I was like (In 2014) I can never use a computer and some knowledge to help the society but then I was terribly wrong, I saw something called Raspberry Pi and It was a Motherboard which is in a pocket size. I used them when I was in 5th I made few hometime projects like Door Sensor, Water Overflow Indicator, etcetera. I went in many hackathons such as IBM Bluemix, Sparkathon, etcetera. I have an ambition of starting a Startup-Non-profit Organization.

Endorsements

edit
  •   Oppose would like to join to make sure that there is an opt-out - any attempt to quantify users is subjective (and also to encourage creating several ratings (separate rating for content edits, for talk page edits, for user talk edits, etc) several ratings may make it easier for others to know that the user's rating is subjective and not a measure of superiority, but even then I think this would be rather dangerous in such a large group as English Wikipedia)

Instead I would suggest to make it easier for users to join wikiprojects as this is where collaboration and encouragement may come from Gryllida 01:17, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Without all this, I can still see how much a user has contributed to Wikipedia with the help of flabs. I agree to Gryllida. Harshrathod50 (talk) 01:25, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Unnecessary and likely to put off editors. MargaretRDonald (talk) 00:56, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
  •   Oppose If points is the number of user contributions, that is already given automatically. That user has 11 + 1 = 12 global contributions. --Havang(nl) (talk) 12:49, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
  • Weak Endorsement - I believe Karthik Srivijay has good intentions and I applaud their initiative in posting an idea. I also see the pitfalls of a "point system." I hope the originating editor continues learning and contributing to the field as they gain experience. Ouranista (talk) 14:39, 28 July 2018 (UTC)
  •   Support Though I think the proposal is quite poorly worded. What User:TheProgrammerBoy seems to be suggesting is a one-dimensional and weak form of EPR, per my idea at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Multidimensional_EPR_(Earned_Public_Reputation)#Endorsements. As that idea applies to this idea, the contributors would be able to see their EPR improve (or deteriorate) over time, but it isn't a credit-earning paradigm. I do think EPR could be reflected in how Wikipedia displays the content on articles, but as it applies to this idea, the main fit would perhaps be if people wanted a way to see which of their contributions had earned favorable (or unfavorable) reactions.
