What is the problem you're trying to solve?

edit

Nowadays the tecnology level allow people affected by blindness to use computers perfectly and without problems, granting them the possibility to gain access to Internet, this fantastic tool of communication and information. I saw, as an user, that the Wikipedia platform has not yet thought about extending, in a proper way, its range of use to this category of people, who, by sharing ideas, can only bring advantages to themselves and to all the Wikipedia web, as well. In order to achieve this goal, it's needed, in my opinion, an update of the system; an update that will allow all people affect from this serious patology to consult and to contribute, in the best way possible, to Wikipedia.

What is your solution?

edit

It's necessary to make some incisive modification:

1) First of all, it's mandatory to allow people to search for the words on the Wikipedia site by just saying them on their own microphone; it is true that this way of searching words is already implemented in a good number of search engines (for example: google), but I think that even on the Wikipedia site users should be able to do that; this could make the life of blind people easier. I would suggest to allow the "audio search" by using a specified button of the keyboard (for example: the F1 button), so that the audio search will be selected only at will and in an easy way.

2) On Wikipedia there are too few audio pages; this problem must be solved. My idea is to form working groups that will create the audio files that will be available with the normal page. The "audio file" will be accessible by just pressing a specified button on the keybord, obviously different from the one specified before; it could be, for example, F2 (in this way, the "search" button and the "audio" button would be near; this would make the use of the system easier).

3) As mentioned before, the Wikipedia platform should allow blind people to contribute to the knowledge database, too. It is true that they could be able to submit audio files, but it is also needed, in my opinion, a visual page that could contain the precious information that they will give. My idea is to create a group of work that will transfer in a write page the information contained in the audio files mentioned before.

Project goals

edit

By allow people affect by blindness to use Wikipedia in a easier way, the whole Wikipedia circuit and the single blind private will achieve important goals; the private will join in a more incisive way the Wikipedia circle, without felling disadvantaged from his/her patology, while Wikipedia will expand its community, aspect this that will only bring advantages to everybody.

Like a seed needs water and sun, this idea needs discussion and feedbacks. Only by thinking together it is be possible to transform an idea in something concrete. I hope everybody will give good cues.
