Grants:IdeaLab/Remove benefits of negative attention
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editPerceived benefit of drawing attention negatively can drive lots of hostile behavior difficult to control, but by focusing on this perceived benefit and removing it, may lessen substantially.
What is your solution?
editAttention seeking is neither good nor bad in and of itself, but people need direction to positive ways, like working hard at creating useful articles and seeing primary benefit there. But it can be easier to simply say something nasty for example, knowing will likely generate a response. Or create hostile articles, as realize can draw more attention. By focusing on the motive can both direct people towards building activities, and away from destructive negative attention activities. More people are likely to focus positively if reasons are highlighted. But also by focusing on motivations can find more effective ways to handle those who behave badly, regardless of positive guidance.
And have quite a bit of experience in this area both as someone who has faced a lot of criticism, and has been accused of being a troll. Actually had to put a Wikipedia article about myself up for permanent deletion when the article writer kept changing back to keep in, what I saw as simple insults. That is relevant information which should be included. Obviously others might disagree and claim am simply a troll. But yeah I know a LOT on the subject. And even have had the experience on the Wikipedia itself of being insulted, and fighting back with an article about myself going into permanent deletion which was fine with me. The Wikipedia community concluded I was not worthy of an article.
