Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editWikipedia has been avoiding Social Media integration/penetration almost as an ostrich effect. This is negatively impacting popularization of the platform in a steady and gradual manner already.
What is your solution?
editWikipedia needs social media integration in two ways as proposed herewith.
- Sharing information on Social Media platforms : outbound
- Allowing integration of Social Media handles into article(s) : inbound
Unless it is done in a timely fashion, it will inflict irrevocable damage on the branding. Wikipedia should not limited to a repository of places, articles of scientific interests and objects of historical importance. It should engage with its readers on broader interest topics using all possible digital interaction mediums without personal prejudice.
Project goals
edit- There is a critical (read immediate) need to allow readers suitable handles through which they can share the information on different social media platforms. E.g. currently the Wikipedia mobile app allows snippets to be tweeted. It will impact popularity immensely and drive readers to wiki all the more.
- On the inbound side, wiki may stop ignoring important social media platforms e.g. LinkedIn that are fast becoming digital identity of individuals and companies alike. It reflects poorly on the platform that embracing new technology , new connectivity handles are taken in a negative manner. This should require properly laid guidelines , templates , monitoring framework etc. as usual to cull spamming.
