Grants:IdeaLab/Survey potential female editors to determine most popular topics of interest
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editI see a lot of speculation here about whether the average potential female editor of Wikipedia is interested in fashion (for example) or in female scientists (for example). It is hard to tailor our recruitment without having more data.
What is your solution?
editIt would be interesting to survey both female Wikipedians and women who do not edit Wikipedia to determine whether we see any recurring themes about potential interests. We would need someone with a strong background in survey design to result in actionable data. I'd be interested in seeing what differences exist between current female editors and non-editors who identify as being interested in Wikipedia or contributing to Wikipedia. The survey could be general, or could also (or instead) offer a long list of potential edit-a-thon topics, and see which are most appealing to women. We could also ask respondents to identify which offline groups they are involved in, to better target partnerships and outreach. (Note that while this is my idea, I do not want to personally apply for a grant and carry it out -- so others should feel free to jump in!
