Grants:IdeaLab/Wiki Statistics

Wiki Statistics
Wiki databases for the masses! Allow for the entry of data into related tables you create. Standard wiki table syntax would change to allow for querying and retrieval the related tables. Add wiki-style querying to allow amazing worldwide analysis of all of the valuable data on wikipedia.

Project idea

edit

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

edit

Much of the data on wikipedia and around the world is difficult to bring together and many sources of valuable information is closed to public review simply because the infrastructure does not exist to allow for simple public data entry; importing; querying and analysis.

What is your solution?

edit

Extend Wikimedia/wikipeida so that tables are much more than just boxes with text. Users can create and relate tables to one another and allow for data entry. Then, other tables on wikipedia can be queried in combination with the new table allowing for analysis never before possible on earth.

Want to find out crime stats in areas where the mean temperature is above 90 degrees? As a reader on wikipedia, that would then be possible and with the proper interface, it would also be simple.

Project goals

edit

Users would be able to use a simple search like interface but instead of scouring text it would allow for querying data and joining seperate tables to return the needed results. Imagine that with the treasure trove of data on Wikipedia?
