Grants:IdeaLab/You Are Fake News

You Are Fake News
Stop allowing "established editors" to incorporate PEJORATIVES into the personal bios of individuals with "protected" pages; it doesn't belong on Wikipedia and it discredits you entirely. If you're going to lock editors out of making page edits, AT LEAST provide a reporting method that can be used repeatedly until the attention of a reasonable, adult, critically-thinking editor can be acquired. If you're going to let people tag political figures they dislike with pejorative remarks, at least leave the page open to ALL editors. Otherwise, YOU ARE FAKE NEWS and this daily reader will stop using (or promoting) your service. In the past, I have repeatedly, aggressively defended Wikipedia as a reasonable source, due to enforcement of critical thinking standards and the ability to quickly correct erroneous content. Now, you're making me regret that defense. Your job is NOT to enforce critical thinking among political pundits! Your job is to enforce critical thinking standards in _your own_ content. You're no longer accomplishing that task, based on my recent observation.

Project idea

edit

What Wikimedia project(s) and specific areas will you be evaluating?

edit

Is this project measuring a specific space on a project (e.g. deletion discussions), or the project as a whole?
I will be evaluating the use of pejoratives on the locked pages of political pundits, the absence of _credible_ citation and the application of logical fallacy by "established" editors.

Describe your idea. How might it be implemented?

edit

Provide details about the method or process of how you will evaluate your community or collect data. Does your idea involve private or personally identifying information? Take a look at the Privacy Policy for Wikimedia’s guidelines in this area.
This would be implemented through a process called 'being a f--king adult' and refusing to allow your personal political slants to get in the way of your (already wounded) reputation as a source.

Are there experienced Wikimedians who can help implement this project?

edit

If applicable, please list groups or usernames of individuals who you can work with on this project, and what kind of work they will do.
Is there anyone left with the sense to separate their political attitudes from factual content?

How will you know if this project is successful? What are some outcomes that you can share after the project is completed?

edit

I'll know this project has been successful when Wikipedia still exists in a decade with even the slightest amount of respect. Unfortunately, it's already too late for that in academia; you blew that opportunity years ago.

How would your measurement idea help your community make better decisions?

edit

After you are finished measuring or evaluating your Wikimedia project, how do you expect that information to be used to benefit the project?
Critical thinking standards? I'll let you go look it up and you can tell me how it would help.

Do you think you can implement this idea? What support do you need?

edit

Do you need people with specific skills to complete this idea? Are there any financial needs for this project? If you can’t implement this project, can you scale down your project so it is doable?
In order for this idea to be implemented, this suggestion would need to be communicated to Wikimedia's upper management. Also, if large grants have been received from particularly politically-biased donors, with the stipulation that some biased editing of Wikipedia's content will be allowed, that activity would need to come to an end. Any other form of political pressure that has been applied in exchange for an absence of criticality will also need to stop; it's not adherent to the organization's ethical code.
