editEndorsements
edit- Not an endorsement, per se. This feature already exists on the English Wikipedia (and presumably others??) as part of a
Gadget
called SidebarTranslate and enabled via Special:Preferences menu. When enabled, it will display a blue "G" next to entries in the Languages section of SideBar; when clicked, it opens the foreign language article in Google Translate. It is fine as an optional choice of users but should not be default per comments below. --dsprc (talk) 01:49, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
Oppositions
editstrong oppose. Nor google translate, neither other translation services provide acceptable level of translation quality. It is sometimes bearable, like in case of Spanish to English or Belarusian to Russian translations, but it still fails on some parts, some parts which are the key ones for understanding what it's all is about sometimes. Thus absolutely no. What should be done instead is encouraging users with proper language knowledge to help with translating stuff. It is a tiresome thing, but actually not that many users dedicated to it are required. --Base (talk) 16:10, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose per above, plus I don't like to depend on centralised service which we can't duplicate on our own servers. --Gryllida 00:54, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: Yandex is often much better for Russian translations; also handle Turkish and Ukrainian dialects better as well. (once upon a time Yahoo! Bablefish was better for Japanese -- then they ran that into the ground too, just like the rest of the company...) --dsprc (talk) 01:53, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
