Goals

  • Apparently, an organization like Wikimedia who widely publishes numbers (allegedly correct) how small is the percentage of participating women (compared to men) does not seem to be able to attract enough women. Women's organizations are much better off in this regard, so it makes sense to cooperate with them - even though it has to be made clear that new users may have to brace themseves against a climate that may be perceived as being much more sexist than the climate they are used to in their own organizations' environment. C.Koltzenburg (talk) 09:15, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
Also, women's organizations have a lot of experience in creating a climate that is liked by the women who are active in their organization. Whereas most women active in Wikipedia apparently do not like the climate here - and I do not know about any of the sister projects. --C.Koltzenburg (talk) 14:56, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Broadly endorse the idea of more edit-a-thons and partnering with women's organisations, but I'd love to see some more concrete information, eg. what specific organisations are you hoping to work with? --Skud (WMF) (talk) 23:41, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
  • This has a natural fit with our existing outreach programs in GLAM and probably education. WMUK already has a distinct skew towards women in its outreach programs and I suspect many other chapters do as well. It should be easy to build on that, and without falling into the trap of telling the chapters which women they should do events with - once you have done some you get Women's groups contacting you. Activities

edit

The main activities of the project will be organizing sessions of edith-a-thons and training.

Budget

edit

Community engagement

edit

The team has to consist Wikipedians, as well the coordinators from partners organizations who will have to contact and coordinate the female activists.

Sustainability

edit

We could counting on many new female editors who will be educated on how to create articles on Wikipedia. Will be see as success if 5% of them remain as active Wikipedia editors after the grants ends.

Measures of success

edit

At least 200 new female will get training on how to edit Wikipedia. We expect 5% of them to become editors who will edit articles in the future. In the same time, we expect 150 new articles created by the participants of the project.
